Alice wakes up in the bright morning light at sharp 6:00 am with a smile on her face. It’s the most beautiful day of her life and it should be because today is her birthday.

Alice walks to her bathroom and takes bath. She comes out and takes out a purple frilly top and matches it with a pair of black jeans. She intends to  look her best today. She goes in front of the mirror and looks at her reflection and starts to brush her hair. She pulls her back into a high ponytail and then stops and starts gazing at herself. She looks closely at her eyes and gets surprised. She feels like her deep green eyes have just changed into ocean blue colour but then when she looked closely  looked at her eyes she saw that they were just like it was before.

Alice’s POV

I am very happy today but I guess the day has itself started with a surprise. I noticed that my eyes changed to an ocean blue colour for a moment but then they were the same again. Maybe its because I am just a little bit too excited. Alright I guess I should forget about it and enjoy my day to the fullest because it’s not going to come again…well maybe not this year!

Alice walked down towards her living room through a flight of stairs which led her downwards. She looked around and saw her pics with her mom that were scattered on every corner of the living room and realized that how much she had grown up now. She’s 18 and responsible (or is going to be).

Alice reached the kitchen where her mom was making some breakfast but she noticed that her mom was lost in her own thoughts.

“ Hey mom! Morning”

“ Hey morning Alice and a very happy birthday to you”. Her mom said with a smile which wasn’t reaching her eyes cuz her eyes were full of a tensed and confused expression.

“ Mom can I ask you something?”

“Yes dear!”

“ Is something wrong?”

“N..noo ! mean why do you think so?”

“Mom just look at your face …you know you can’t lie. What is there that you’re hiding from me.”

“There’s nothing like that stupid it’s just that I am a bit emotional to see you grow into such a big girl that’s all.”

“Hope that’s all. Oh shit mom I am late ok buh bye I’ve gotta go to attend my senior year goodbye.”

“Goodbye and hey-“

Alice was gone before her mom could complete her sentence.

Alice’s POV

I stepped out of my house and got into my car and rode on to the college. I was a bit confused about mom’s behaviour today and I think she was about to say something when I came out. But let’s leave it to tomorrow cuz today’s my day.
