Catherine watched the girl disappear into the bathroom, her mind still replaying the events of the last few minutes. She had been a bit too forward, too eager. She understood that now. Lerato was younger, less experienced, and needed things to be taken slowly.
Catherine took a moment to compose herself, running a hand through her hair.
For the day Catherine had chosen a casual outfit for the day, knowing that they'd be doing a lot of walking. She was wearing jeans and a plain white t-shirt, paired with comfortable sneakers.
Lerato, meanwhile, was dressed in a cute sundress that brought out the warmth of her skin tone. Her feet were clad in a pair of sandals. She kept stealing glances at Catherine in awe 9f the woman's beauty.
Catherine could feel the girl watching her and she couldn't help but smirk. It was gratifying to have such a pretty young thing so enamored with her.
As they walked to the car, she gave Lerato's hand a gentle squeeze, enjoying the feel of their fingers intertwined. Once they reached the car park, Catherine led the girl to her car.
She opened the passenger door for Lerato, gesturing for her to get in. "Here we are," she said with a smile, the afternoon sun highlighting the angles of her face. Lerato got into the car, feeling the cool leather seat under her.
She watched as Catherine walked around to the driver's side, her movements fluid and confident. The older woman soon slid into the driver's seat, the engine coming to life with a smooth hum. "Buckle up," Catherine said, a smile in her voice.
With a flick of her wrist, she turned on the radio as she backed the car out of the parking spot, her eyes scanning the road ahead. As they pulled onto the road, the familiar sounds of Johannesburg in the background, Catherine glanced at the girl in the passenger seat, her gaze roaming over her form appreciatively.
"You look nice," she said, her voice carrying over the soft music from the radio. "That dress really suits you. "Lerato felt her cheeks flush warmly at the compliment, her hand coming up to tug at the hem of the dress self-consciously.
"Thanks," she said, a shy smile on her face. "I wore it thinking you'd like it. "Catherine chuckled, her eyes darting over to Lerato for a moment before returning to the road.
"Oh, I do," she said, her voice laced with a hint of playfulness. "I like it very much. But then again, you could've worn a potato sack and I'd still think you look gorgeous. "Lerato couldn't help but laugh at the mental image that popped into her head.
"A potato sack, huh? Sounds like quite the fashion statement," she said, her amusement evident in her tone. Catherine chuckled, enjoying the light-hearted banter.
"Trust me," she said, a smirk tugging at the corner of her lips. "You could pull off anything."
They continued the drive, the car purring along smoothly as they navigated through the city streets. The drive was mostly silent, aside from the soft murmur of the radio and the occasional exchange of words.
Catherine enjoyed the comfortable silences between them, the way they didn't need constant chatter to feel at ease with each other. Soon, they were approaching their destination. The Victoria Yards came into view, the old industrial buildings now repurposed into trendy cafes, art galleries, and boutique stores.
Catherine pulled the car into a parking space, killed the engine, and turned to look at Lerato."Here we are," she said, a smile on her face. "Victoria Yards."
She got out of the car, then walked over to the passenger side to open Lerato's door for her. Lerato stepped out, her eyes immediately drawn to the hip, urban-chic vibe of the area. There were people milling about, some shopping, some sipping coffee.
She looked up at Catherine, a hint of excitement in her gaze. "This is cool," she said, her voice filled with a slight wonder. Catherine smiled at the girl's reaction, pleased that she liked the place.
"I thought you'd appreciate it," she said, shutting the car door behind them. "It's got a nice atmosphere and some cool stores. Maybe you'll find something to buy.""Come on," she said, her hand finding the small of Lerato's back, "let's go explore."
They began to walk through the area, stopping at a few stores here and there.
Catherine kept her hand on the girl's back, a subtle but possessive touch, letting others know that the young, pretty, thing was off limits. "What do you think about breakfast? The Steers here serves a killer breakfast special." She asked Lerato as they were walking. Lerato glanced at a small cafe as they passed it, the mention of food making her realize that she was actually getting a bit hungry.
"Breakfast does sound good," she said, her stomach giving a small grumble for emphasis. "A killer breakfast, you say?"
"Trust me," Catherine said, her hand lightly squeezing the girl's back. "It's worth it. Plus, I find good food is sometimes the best way to impress a girl."
She guided the girl toward the Steers, opening the door for her with a charming smile.
