"When I was a kid, I wasn't really an active person. Don't you know I was a late talker?" Hindi makapaniwalang tumingin sa akin si Zack dahil mukhang hindi niya alam kung bakit sinasabi ko ito sa kanya. She hung herself two days ago in the Manor." I said again, then flip the pages. I was amazed that Zack McLaren had a collection of books in the living room. Hiniram ko muna.

"What the hell are you talking about? Ano naman ang kinalaman ko dyan sa buhay mo?" He ask, irritated. Hindi ko siya pinansin at nagpatuloy lang na tumingin sa libro na nasa aking kandungan.

"My mother was depressed woman. Madalas niya rin akong saktan katulad ng ginawa mo sa akin noong nakaraang araw. Kahit saan na ako tamaan ay sige lang, dahil hindi naman kayo ang nasasaktan." I said with my usual tone.

"Remember the kid that you've brought in the hospital? The one beaten to death by her mother? The one we named Patricia? I can relate to her. Kaya naman ng dinala niyo siya sa hospital ay isa ako sa doctor na umalalay sa kanya." I inhaled then slowly exhale. Masakit din pala habang nagsasalita ng matagal. I think I need to go to the hospital. Ipapatingin ko ang dibdib ko. An xray would be a good idea.

"Now, I wonder how you're able to make a worried face about the kid when you use your big hands to beat someone." Zack McLaren only scowls at me. Maybe being a good police officer is only a facade.

"Anyway, that kid will now have a good life. She was adopted by a good family. At least she will be away from her mother. Just like how I was freed when my mother died." May munting ngiti na sa labi ko. I never really remember her face. Only vague images inside my head. Isa pa ang tanging naalala ko lang sa tuwing pumapasok siya sa isip ko ay kung paano mangitim ang paa at kamay niya.

"I don't know what you are getting at, you bitch." Masama ang tingin niya sa akin. I only brush his deadly gaze.

"Don't be impatient. We'll go there." I flipped the book page again and tried reading the words.

"Just like how Patricia was able to start a new life with her new family. That's also my case. Because the moment Raven Salazar walked into my life, I've got to live a new life." Raven is my family. He is my lifeline.

We have this quiet competition and so we compete with each other all the time. The first to confess loses." I said truthfully. We play this game that we have to compete with each other. It's a battle of wits. Because the two of us were fucked up human beings who couldn't even have the courage to say the word "I am in love with you." I don't really know when it started but we continue doing that.

"Raven knows how to go with my nerves. He knows how irritated I would get if I saw him talking with women. I hate losing, you know. That's why I did what I could to counterattack. I tipped someone off that the Pleasure Me Bar is selling illegal drugs. Guess what? When I was thinking of that idea, a police officer suddenly walked inside the emergency room, bringing an emergency patient. It was Ivy Allegre."
