Itoshi Rin, Y/n L/n, Shidou Ryusei and Seishiro Nagi . The inseparable quartet of Saiko high, a school known for its excellence in academics as well as extracurriculars. The name itself, 'Saiko', meant the best- and it clearly lived up to its name. Despite such competitiveness however, friendship always bloomed in the most unexpected places in the school. 

Your volleyball instructor and their football coach had decided to make your teams practice together, where you met them for the first time. You struck up a conversation with the trio and got along with them well. Just a few conversations later, you found yourself going out for lunches with them, amusement parks, and a few arcade trips with Nagi- he was your best friend, even though you were close to Rin and Shidou too. 

Your days at Saiko High had become a whirlwind of practice, study, and, most of all, time spent with Rin, Shidou, and Nagi. The four of you were an inseparable unit, and despite the academic pressure and competitiveness at the school, you found solace in each other's company. Your friendship with each of them was different in its own way—Rin was quiet and intense, but reliable. Nagi was laid-back, always ready to waste hours at the arcade or get lost in some random conversation. And then there was Shidou, unpredictable and wild, his carefree nature a constant source of amusement.

What none of you could have anticipated was how easily rumors could creep into that bond, turning even the smallest moments into something misunderstood.

It all started after one ordinary day of practice. You had gone out with Shidou after school for something trivial—a new pair of shoes for him, or maybe just an excuse to wander around the mall. Shidou, ever the flirt, had thrown his arm around you at some point, laughing loudly as he always did, without a care in the world. It was nothing serious, nothing unusual between the two of you.

But the next day, the whispers started.

"Did you hear? Shidou and Y/n are dating!"

"They were at the mall together yesterday, holding hands!"

The rumor spread like wildfire. By lunchtime, the entire school seemed to know, and people were watching you and Shidou with curious eyes. You tried to laugh it off—Shidou thought it was hilarious, leaning into the rumors like they were his personal source of entertainment.

But Rin didn't.

At first, you didn't notice. Rin had always been a little distant, a little more reserved than the others. But after the rumors, it became clear that something had shifted. He stopped meeting your eyes as often. His responses were curt. When the four of you hung out, he seemed more distracted, more withdrawn. And when Shidou would crack one of his ridiculous jokes, throwing in a teasing comment about the two of you "secretly dating," Rin's jaw would tighten, his hands clenching ever so slightly.

It gnawed at you. Was he upset with Shidou? Or...with you?

One afternoon, as the four of you sat at your usual spot near the soccer field, you decided to bring it up. The tension between you and Rin had become impossible to ignore.
