Little A/N, the first human here falls in 21XX, the current year being just before the war between humans and monsters
No. No, this can't be. This isn't happening. You're going to wake up any moment now, with Sans' arms around you, telling you that this was all just a bad dream. He'll hug you tight, telling you that 'No, everything's ok. I'd never be drafted to fight in the war. I'll be here forever.' But it doesn't happen. You're standing in the living room of your beach house, with your boyfriend in front of you, holding a piece of paper.
"Babe, I'm so, so sorry. I have to go. There's nothing I can do about it. I have to leave tomorrow." Sans says quietly. You feel as if you've swallowed a rock. This can't happen. This was supposed to be an amazing week on the beach, relaxing after a long year of working for the AMHE, Association for Monsters and Human Embassy, trying to restore peace and break the ever growing tension between the two races. You and Sans were supposed to take moonlit walks, share kisses and cuddles, swim your hearts out, and just spend time together.
"N-no. You p-promised that you'd never leave." Your usually calm and composed voice, ready to soothe any argument or calm down an angry coworker has broken, and your voice wavers.
"(Y/N), I have to. You know I do. I don't want to, but I need to." The worst thing is, you know he's right. No amount of pleading can change the fact that he's been drafted to fight in a war. A war that is a suicide mission for all monsters.
"YOU KNOW THAT THIS IS AN IMPOSSIBLE WAR TO WIN!" You shout, trying to turn your sadness into anger. "YOU'RE GOING TO FIGHT IN A WAR, WHERE INNOCENT MONSTERS DIE AND MY SOULMATE HAS BEEN DRAFTED. MY HEART IS BREAKING, AND I KNOW THAT I CAN'T DO ANYTHING." Your voice cracks, and the tears you've been holding in come flowing out. You let out a choked sob and rush out onto the beach. You curl up into a ball on the shoreline, waves lapping at your toes. Get it together, (Y/N). You're stronger than this. Sans needs you. You can't be selfish. You try to regain your composure, to try to go back inside to apologize to Sans, but sobs shake your shoulders, and hot tears stream down your cheeks. You've been dating for four years. The best four years of your life. He's been a bright light, always there for you whenever you're happy, sad, angry, or proud. Always there to give you a hug on your worst day, to tell you that he loves you, and you wholeheartedly love him back. You squeeze your torso. It feels as if your SOUL itself is cracking. A fresh wave of tears comes, and you start to sob. After you steady yourself, you start to sing a sad love song that you and Sans always dance to.
"We were playing in the sand, hmmm hmm hmm hmm~" You begin, and despite your tears, your voice comes out without a crack.
"And you found a little band hmm hmm hmmm hmm~" A baritone voice says from behind you sings back. You whip your head around to see Sans, who sits by you. Your heart beats faster.
"You told me you fell in love with it, hadn't gone as I planned~" You start off, then Sans joins in. You turn to face him, tears still flowing down your cheeks.
"When you had to bid adieu hmm hmmm hmmm hmm~" Sans sings to you, grasping your hand. You take it, and lean into him.
"Said you'd never love anew hmmm hmm hmmm hmm~" You sing back, your head now on his shoulder.
"I wondered if I could hold it and fall in love with it, too" Sans gently sings, and you bring your foreheads together, closing your eyes as you prepare for the last verse.
"You told me to buy a pony, but all I wanted was you~" You finish, and open your eyes. Now Sans is the one crying, with tears streaming down his skull. You hold him tight and brush away his tears. "I'm sorry." You say. That's all that's needed. You hold each other for a while, silently crying.
Finally, he whispers "I love you so much, (Y/N)." He says gently. You know that means he has to go. He walks to the house, getting his bags before coming out on the beach again. You run to him and hug him, not wanting to let go. But you have to. As he drives off, you lay down on the beach, no more tears left to shed.
That was the last time you saw each other.
A/N: OMG I almost CRIED writing this. I can't really write angst, but I tried. I'll update soon when I reach my goal of 1 view!
