Chapter 2: The Selection Party

Chandeliers were circulated at the center of the ceiling. A red carpet has been laid down on the floor leading up to the wide grand staircase in the middle of the hall. The vintage chairs were covered by a white cloth, and the fresh scent of the flowers installed in each corner has reached her nostrils. Guests were formed into groups as they chatted with one another. Women in their colorful gowns stand out, but men in their military attire and suits can catch attention too. Most of them have their wine glasses in hand already.

But the moment she started to walk in the aisle, the attention of almost everyone in the hall was diverted in their direction.

Selene heaved a sigh. It seems that her plan to become invisible to the party will become impossible because of her character’s reputation.

There’s a hint of admiration through the men’s eyes. But enviousness is obviously visible through the women’s.

“As always, you look dashingly beautiful tonight, our Lady Luna.”

Selene halted on her tracks when a man suddenly blocked her way and gently bowed his head.

“She always finds her way to a man’s heart,” one of the old ladies near her said.

“Selene indeed looked like a moon goddess. Her beauty is illuminating tonight’s party. Our Luna,” added the other man on her side.

Oh, right. If there’s one thing that her past self and Selene have in common, it’s the way people call her.

In the Kingdom of Granville, Selene Quincy is a moon goddess in the eyes of many, earning her the nickname Luna. Maybe because she loves to wear black outfits with a touch of purple. And many of the people here often see her as the moon shining so brightly despite the darkness.

Selene is wearing a black and purple Victorian bustle corset ball gown with a high neckline and floor-length cut. Purple is Selene’s favorite color since it matches the color of her hair and eyes. Her hair is styled in a braided updo with a few strands loose upfront.

“What nice pleasantries. May the goddess blessings fall upon all of you tonight,” her father finally interjected.

“May the goddess blessings fall upon you as well, Lord Weston.”

Selene excuses herself when her parents join the chat of others.

“Oh my, Lady Selene! You looked gorgeous as always!”

“Thank you,” aniya bago muling bumalik sa pagmumuni-muni.

“I’m pretty sure that the Duke will choose you tonight.” The other woman suddenly covered her mouth as if she said something that shouldn’t be voiced out loud. “That’s if the Duke won’t push you away again this time.” The two giggled.
