Cries of terror and horrified shrieks rang out through the unrelenting flames devouring everything they touched greedily, gun shots echoing with hounds snarling viscously shook the entire village. Doors were being broken in, masked men invading houses and dragging the citizens out of their homes into the dirt streets searching for their target.
Men became animals as they hurled fists and weapons at the advancing army of masked beings, trying to protect their village. The women covered the children, trying to escape the fire that was eating away at their houses and people, cries of agony and loss now engrained into the memories of all the children.A young man ran through the scattering people, screaming out for his wife and child, if anybody had seen them. Fear trumped his sense of rationality, forcing him into s frenzied state as he advanced on their homestead in hopes of finding his beloved. He jumped over corpses of his friends, battered bodies of children and sliced up remains in his desperate haze. Beating in on the door, he heard his wife's agonised screams and the encouragements of an older woman.
Chest heaving as he approached his woman, the wail of the babe from beside her made his heart jolt unexpectedly in short happiness. The woman he was married to just had her child, wet and bloodied towels scattered along with a basin and a bundle of blankets. But his wife was still writhing in agony, a pool of dark liquid beneath her was rapidly growing.
"Take the babe, she is the key to our villages legacy living on" the older woman roared at him, forcing the wailing bundle into his arms with a ferocious look. He knew by that look this was his last time with the woman who bore his child, watching her life depleting made his heart lurch with raw emotions. Chastely placing a kiss on her pale blue lips, he wept for his beloved as he stumbled out of the small wooden cabin.
'Forgive me, Kirsten' The babe was still crying out for her mother mixed with his silent sobbing they mourned the death of the most important in their life. Slipping away deeper into the ancient forest, the young man disappearing from the invader's sight and the newborn child out of harms way. After an hour of running, stumbling and soothing the young one's cries, he found a crevice in the rocky terrain they were now travelling over, big enough for the little body and him to fit into until dawn breaks.
Sliding himself into the hole, he then took the child on his lap with shaking hands and ragged breathing. Moving the blankets gently so not to upset the wee little thing he was cradling, he wanted to take a look at the child; his child. The little person created from the love that he experienced with his Kirsten. Fresh tears started flowing as a sob racked his body, making the child whimper softly in retaliation.
His tears were the delayed reaction to the horrors he had experienced in the village; his family, friends, wife, and village are gone. All for what? The bundle of blankets in his arms right now. He needed to see his child, and couldn't wait any longer. Removing some of the blankets, a wave of repressed joy and sadness working its way through his body. He gazed intently at it, the feminine features of short icy white hair that rested on her fair skinned head, a quick glimpse of violet irises had confusion rushing through him.
Had his wife been unfaithful? No, she hadn't. He glimpsed an opaque creamy colour near her collar bone and took a closer look. There on her little chest was the crest that would be either the ruin or the benefit of her life; the crown that marks the First Generation of Genesis. Wanting a normal life for his daughter, he couldn't leave her grow up in a world where people view her as a god or a weapon. He would keep her safe, like he meant to do with his wife.
He failed once, but will not fail a second time.
