The first light of dawn broke through the horizon, casting a golden hue over the village. Saksham stood by the gates, gripping the silver emblem of the Adventurer’s Guild in his hand. His heart pounded with a mixture of excitement and fear as the weight of what was to come sank in.

Mira stood beside him, adjusting her bow and quiver, her usual confident grin plastered on her face. "Are you ready for this?" she asked, nudging him with her elbow.

Saksham took a deep breath, nodding slowly. "As ready as I’ll ever be."

The other adventurers gathered around the gates, some seasoned veterans and others, like Saksham and Mira, new recruits eager to make their mark. Arin, the legendary warrior, stood at the front of the group, his imposing figure commanding respect. His armor gleamed in the morning light, and his sword, which seemed to carry the weight of countless battles, rested easily at his side.

"Today, we begin our journey to the northern mountains," Arin announced, his voice steady and calm. "The path ahead will be treacherous, but together, we can face whatever awaits us. Stick to your training, trust your instincts, and remember: survival depends on teamwork."

Saksham swallowed hard. He had trained for years, but nothing could have prepared him for the reality of facing monsters, let alone an ancient evil. The weight of his decision to join the guild hit him in full force. There was no turning back now.

Arin motioned for the group to move out. "Let’s go."

The journey began quietly, with the group making their way through the thick forests surrounding the village. The air was crisp, and the sound of rustling leaves filled the silence. Saksham walked beside Mira, his eyes scanning the dense trees for any sign of movement. Despite the calm, his senses were on high alert.

Hours passed, and the forest grew darker as they ventured deeper. The once-beautiful, sunlit woods began to feel more ominous, as if they were being watched.

"Is it just me, or is it getting colder?" Mira asked, her voice low.

Saksham nodded. "Yeah, I noticed it too. Something feels… off."

Suddenly, Arin raised his hand, signaling the group to stop. Everyone froze, their eyes turning to the warrior at the front. His gaze was fixed on something ahead, and his hand rested on the hilt of his sword.

"Stay alert," he whispered, his voice barely audible.

A low growl echoed through the trees, sending a shiver down Saksham’s spine. He gripped the hilt of his dagger tightly, his heart racing. Out of the shadows, several dark shapes began to emerge—monstrous creatures with glowing red eyes and twisted, snarling faces.

"Wolves," Arin muttered. "Not normal ones either."

These weren’t ordinary wolves. Their fur was pitch black, their fangs unnaturally long, and their eyes glowed with a malevolent hunger. They moved as one, circling the group, their growls growing louder.

Arin drew his sword, his stance firm and unyielding. "Everyone, get ready. Protect each other."

Mira swiftly drew her bow, nocking an arrow with practiced ease. Saksham followed suit, drawing his dagger, his breath coming in shallow bursts. He had never faced creatures like these before, but there was no time to hesitate.

With a sharp command from their leader, the wolves lunged forward, their jaws snapping. Chaos erupted as the adventurers clashed with the creatures, steel meeting fang. Arin fought at the front, his blade flashing in the dim light as he cut through the beasts with precision. The veterans held their ground, forming a protective circle around the newer recruits.

Mira loosed arrow after arrow, each one finding its mark with deadly accuracy. Saksham stood by her side, fending off any wolves that came too close. His dagger flashed as he parried the snapping jaws of a particularly vicious wolf, slashing its side in one swift motion.

For a moment, it seemed like they were holding their own. But the wolves kept coming, their numbers seemingly endless. Saksham’s arms ached from the strain of fighting, and his breathing grew ragged.

"Mira!" he called out as a wolf lunged toward her from the side. Without thinking, he threw himself in front of her, slashing the wolf across its muzzle. It yelped in pain, retreating into the shadows.

Mira shot him a grateful glance. "Nice save."

"Don’t mention it," Saksham replied, panting.

The battle raged on, but slowly, the group began to gain the upper hand. One by one, the wolves fell, their bodies disappearing into dark mist as they were defeated. Finally, after what felt like an eternity, the last of the creatures was slain.

Silence fell over the forest once more, broken only by the heavy breathing of the adventurers. Arin sheathed his sword, surveying the aftermath with a grim expression.

"Is everyone alright?" he asked, his voice calm despite the intensity of the battle.

A few of the recruits had sustained minor injuries, but nothing life-threatening. Saksham wiped the sweat from his brow, his heart still racing from the fight.

Arin approached the group, his gaze settling on Saksham and Mira. "You two did well. For your first real battle, you held your own."

Saksham felt a surge of pride at the compliment but quickly reminded himself that this was only the beginning. The wolves had been a test—a small taste of the dangers that awaited them. If they were to survive the journey to the northern mountains, they would have to be ready for far worse.

"We’ll set up camp here for the night," Arin announced. "Rest up. Tomorrow, we continue."

As the group began to set up camp, Saksham sat down beside Mira, his body aching from the fight. The adrenaline was wearing off, leaving him exhausted but exhilarated.

"You still think we’re ready for this?" he asked, glancing at Mira.

She smiled, though there was a hint of weariness in her eyes. "We survived our first battle, didn’t we? That’s a good start."

Saksham nodded, though deep down, he knew this was just the beginning. The journey ahead was uncertain, filled with dangers they couldn’t even imagine. But for the first time in his life, he felt like he was truly living.

Whatever lay ahead, he was ready to face it.
