*** Ezra ...

'What do you think? Still like it?'

Quietly, I follow him around the house, from room to room. He seems happy with it, making pictures in his mind of where the furniture will go.

'I really like it, don't you?'

How different is it from the other places we have lived? Perhaps this being the first time we are moving to America.

Leo and I change locations every couple years, mostly when people begin to notice we don't age. The longest we have stayed is twenty years. When we moved each time I ate someone, we were travelling every odd week. I head upstairs towards one of the rooms he already checked. I think I will take that room.

"Ezra?" He calls from the bottom of the stairs. 'Our things?'

Oh. I vault back to detached house in Manchester, Britain, the house we are moving from, and one by one, I begin vaulting our things. Our boxes of clothes and kitchen wares, appliances, furniture, Leo directing me on where to put them. When we are done, I retire to my room, shutting myself in.

A few days later, Leo lets me know he wants to buy groceries. I follow. I walk steadily behind him as he walks through the aisles, pushing the cart. He ponders in his head what to buy as I unconsciously scan the store.

'You're not a guard anymore, Ezra.' Just then I catch a pair of dark green eyes, watching us. I halt, is that a female or male? Their features are soft but they have on a large dark hoodie with the hood on. Are they watching Leo? 'Ezra, relax.' I realise I'm glaring.

Leo halts, ducking back a step and pretending to look for something on the low shelf before accidentally catching her. She is still watching us. Bearing a smile, he waves. The person waves back, a sack of onions in their hand.

'Come on. Also, it's clearly a girl.' We walk for a while and he stops to take out milk, stopping short of the frozen meats to pick something out.

Are they attracted to you then? Leo tends to have many people randomly try to court him, any gender. He shrugs.

'Perhaps? Would you like me to make you chicken or steak for our first home cooked meal in the house?'

I don't care about the meal and you know that.

'At least try to play along.' He picks out a few more things then we head to checkout. People join the line behind us.

"Hey." The line moves up a little. Two more before us. This place seems busy, I'm glad we live far enough from this area. "Hey, large man." Something taps my shoulder and I turn. Then I lower my head considerably. Green eyes are staring up at me, bread, milk and eggs in its arms. "Are you a freshman?"

It's talking to me.

'She.' It raised its brows. It's waiting for an answer. 'She!' Leo moves up a step in the queue and I follow. She taps me again and I turn around.

"Ava, psychology." Why is it still talking to me?

'Sh-dear God.' Leo turns to her. "Hello, don't mind him, we don't go to the university but we're new in town. I'm Leo, he's Ezra." She nods, raising her head as she turns from Leo to me. She turns back to Leo.

"He doesn't talk?" She mutters. Leo chuckles, moving up to the checkout to begin taking out our things to scan. She keeps watching me. Are we certain they're a she? The clothes are too large and they don't have proper posture. I move around Leo, taking over the duties of scanning. Please, speak to her instead. Scoffing, he moves to her.

"Are you from here?"

"No, moved here when school started some months ago, but I know where everything is now. I could show you guys around if you'd like." Leo hands me the card. I press it against the card reader.
