The next morning, Y/N arrived at Nekoma High, her usual bright energy lighting up the hallways. As soon as she saw her friends, she greeted them with a big smile.
"Morning! Did you guys eat breakfast?" Y/N asked, immediately shifting into her mom-like mode.
"Y/N-chan, you never forget to ask, do you?" one of her friends, Keiko, laughed. "Yes, I had breakfast."
"Me too!" another classmate chimed in, holding up her packed lunch.
Y/N nodded approvingly. "Good! Make sure to stay hydrated too. And don't forget we have the class cleaning duty later."
As she made her way to her classroom, Y/N couldn't help but chuckle to herself. She still couldn't stop thinking about her encounter with Kenma yesterday. The image of his surprised face when she whipped out detergent from her bag kept replaying in her mind, and she stifled a laugh. What a funny guy.
After class ended and lunchtime rolled around, Y/N made her way down the hallway, to drop by her club room. As she turned a corner, she spotted Kenma walking in the opposite direction, as usual, glued to his handheld console. He was so focused that he didn't even notice someone running down the hallway, heading straight for him.
In the blink of an eye, the boy running collided with Kenma, causing him to stumble and-more importantly-his beloved console to slip from his hands. Y/N's eyes widened, and with reflexes she didn't even know she had, she lunged forward and caught the console before it hit the floor.
Kenma blinked, his usual calm face morphing into one of surprise as Y/N handed the console back to him.
"Th-thank you," Kenma mumbled, clearly still processing what had just happened.
Y/N smiled and waved it off, her hands on her hips as she looked down the hallway where the boy who had bumped into Kenma was still running. She sighed and muttered, "He's not supposed to run in the hallway..."
Kenma blinked again, this time slower, like a cat trying to understand something. She's nagging... like a mom. His teammates had called her the "team mom" and he hadn't understood what they meant. Now, though, he was starting to get it.
After a beat, Kenma awkwardly cleared his throat. "Um, what's... your name?"
Y/N looked back at him, slightly taken aback. "Oh! Sorry, I forgot to introduce myself yesterday, didn't I? I'm Y/N Agawa. Just call me Y/N."
Kenma gave a small nod. He already knew that from his teammates' constant teasing, but somehow it felt different hearing it from her.
Just then, loud voices came from the other end of the hallway. It was Lev, Yamamoto, Inuoka, and Fukunaga-Kenma's teammates, as loud as ever.
"KENMAAAA-SANNNN!" Lev shouted, running at full speed toward them.
Y/N crossed her arms, raising an eyebrow as Lev skidded to a stop in front of them, his usual wide grin plastered on his face. "Lev, you're not supposed to run in the hallway," she said gently.
Lev froze for a second before rubbing the back of his head sheepishly. "Ah... sorry, Y/N-san," he mumbled, looking down.
Yamamoto, who was standing behind Lev, tried his best not to make eye contact with Y/N, still shy around her. Fukunaga gave her a silent wave, while Inuoka beamed at her, clearly amused by Lev's embarrassment.
"Good afternoon, Y/N-san!" Inuoka greeted enthusiastically.
Y/N chuckled softly, waving back. "Good afternoon! Looks like you guys are headed to the cafeteria?"
"Yeah!" Lev said, the embarrassment from earlier already forgotten. "Do you want to join us?"
Y/N shook her head with a laugh. "Sorry but thanks for the invitation. I've got club activities to finish up."
