Avira gazed intently out the window as the plane descended onto the Tennessee soil, her mind filled with swirling thoughts about whether this trip was the right decision. Her eyes shifted to her little brothers, Adam and Trent, who were seated beside her, peacefully asleep. Despite her inner turmoil, she couldn't help but feel overjoyed about her brother Adam's well-deserved scholarship, which he had received from his coach in Denver. The opportunity was a result of his hard work and dedication to his sport, and seeing him achieve this milestone filled her with pride and happiness.

Adam had always been passionate about sports, ever since he was a 5-year-old kid he used to play with our dad in our expansive backyard as our mom used to sit on the deck chairs, soaking up as much sun as she could while watching them. Unfortunately, everything changed when they both tragically lost their lives in a store attack, along with our older sister Loraine. Loraine was amazing - she did so much for us, taking us to school, helping us with homework, and comforting us when we were upset.
Now, we live with our Aunt Loralie. I wanted to stay in Denver because that was my home and where I met extraordinary people. However, that wasn't possible as Aunt Loralie couldn't afford to live there anymore, even with her job.
As we arrived in Tennessee, the weight of our losses and memories from our previous lives hung heavy in the air as we waited anxiously for our luggage at the airport. The thought of retrieving our belongings was a poignant reminder that our old lives were behind us, and this new place was about to become our home. The daydream was interrupted by a gentle nudge from Loralie, indicating it was time to gather my suitcase and carry-on bags. With a mix of emotions, I quickly collected my belongings, an undesirable feeling, and a rush of excitement as we approached the doors that would open to welcome us into our new life in Tennessee.
Upon our arrival in Oak Ridge after a few hours of travel, we found ourselves standing outside our new home. The mix of emotions was palpable - excitement for the new chapter and a tinge of sadness for what we were leaving behind. As everyone began carrying their luggage into the house, I stood still, captivated by the elegant structure before me. The walls adorned with vines, the inviting archway on the porch, the carefully tended flowers surrounding the front yard, and the majestic, thick oak tree that immediately drew my gaze all painted a picture of serenity. Intrigued, I decided to explore the back of the house. The setting sun casts a warm glow, enhancing the beauty of the oak tree. As I approached the front of the tree, I couldn't resist the urge to reach out and touch its gnarled bark, closing my eyes to take in the moment. The sensation was incredibly soothing as if a weight had been lifted from my shoulders. Reluctantly, I let go of the tree, knowing that I needed to start unpacking but carrying with me the tranquillity it had imparted.
One thing about me is that I love having a clean and organized space. It brings me a sense of calm and helps me focus on whatever task is at hand. It's around 7 pm, and I've finally finished unpacking all the essential items. As I completed the majority of the unpacking, a wave of relief washed over me, and I decided to take a well-deserved break. The exhaustion from jet lag began to set in, and I found myself feeling a bit homesick, so I reached out to Darcy for some comfort. I made my way back to my bed and settled against the softness of the headboard as I dialed her number. As soon as she picked up the phone, a sense of familiarity and warmth enveloped me as we began to catch up.
"hey girl!!!!" she exclaims with a smile on her face. She misses me and likewise.
"hi, Dar I do miss you so much we're like an hour apart I'm guessing it's 6 for you," I say drained.
"yeah it is, I can't believe your aunt Loralie made you go all the way to Tennessee that is so far."
"I know Dar, anyways anything new happened at Denver High School today if so spill all the gossip," I said perking myself forward with a slight smirk on my face.
