Kaysharni prayed his form teacher was available as he passed his Form Class on the way to his independent study class in the library. His teacher's name was Senorita Sanchez and although he didn't have lessons with her, she was his favourite teacher.

His prayers were answered when he saw her do something on the computer. He never saw anyone type so quickly. He wasn't sure why he was anxious as she was easy to talk to, however today seemed different. He couldn't figure out why.

Quietly knocking on the door twice, he waited for her response. She was wearing an elegant navy blue dress, lacy designs infested all over it. His mum wore the same dress for New Year's so they must have had the same fashion sense.

Normally she kept her hair down, except from today where it was in two bunches. Her black tights and stilettos matched, dressing as if she was going to a fancy event more than school. Faint eyeliner surrounded her eyes.

"Kaysharni!" She stopped typing, almost jumping in her seat. "I'm so happy you're here! I wanted to speak to you. How much time do you have?"

"Until the second bell goes. So seven minutes."

He couldn't wait until school finished to speak to her, standing opposite her after he closed the door. There was no point bringing a chair, Señorita Sanchez starting the conversation.

"I'll make this quick." She put her documents away, Kaysharni watching her as she did so. "I'm worried about you."

He was worried about himself too, not admitting it to her.

"Seriously, Kaysharni, what's going on? Your teachers have noticed a change in you, and I have too. From what they've told me, you don't pay attention in your classes anymore. You don't contribute as much in R.S., you're quiet in Sociology and you're dozing off in Music Class. Which is strange because you love Music Class! Something's definitely up. What is it?"

She sounded more upset than before, Kaysharni seeing the disconsolate look in her eyes. People said eyes were the window to the soul. Hers were as if fear and hope were having an internal battle with each other. He couldn't have had a more caring Form Teacher.

"If my teachers were worried about me, why didn't they speak to me themselves?"

"They know you have a stronger rapport with me. So they sent me to talk to you. It's my responsibility to care about my students."

Since he was already there, he mentioned what he could. Shortening the story again, Kaysharni opened up about his Christmas break. Senorita Sanchez was fully immersed in the story, which was why he liked her – she paid attention and didn't judge him. Every student had lives outside of school. Sadly, not all of Kaysharni's teachers remembered it.

"I'm fine Miss, honestly. I'm almost out of money. When my bank account is near or below 0, my school work starts to suffer. I've tried looking for jobs, but it's hard when you're under 18 and it's Christmas season. Thanks for your concern. I really appreciate it."

"Yeah, I understand that. I'm sorry." He knew saying sorry wasn't enough. Couldn't change what happened. Reaching for her purse, she pulled out £50 – 2x £20 and a £10. "Take it, for you and your family. You need it more than I do."
