It had been a week since that night—since the kiss, the embrace, and the tender moments shared on Eun-ji's sofa. But ever since then, Eun-ji had remained quiet. She hadn’t brought it up, hadn’t messaged Jungkook, hadn’t given him any sign of where her heart stood.
And Jungkook was waiting.
He tried to stay patient, reminding himself that she needed time. He had promised to give her space, but each day without a word chipped away at him a little more. He couldn’t help the ache in his chest, the feeling of uncertainty gnawing at him.
Today, as Jungkook sat with the rest of BTS in their practice room, his mind wasn’t fully present. His members were laughing and chatting around him, but he stayed quiet, absentmindedly fiddling with his phone, glancing at the screen every now and then, hoping for a message from her.
Taehyung, noticing Jungkook’s distant expression, nudged him playfully. “Hey, Kook. You’ve been quiet today. Something on your mind?”
Jungkook forced a small smile, trying to shake off the gloom that hung over him. “No, I’m fine. Just tired, I guess.”
Jimin, who had always been especially close with Jungkook, wasn’t fooled. He exchanged a glance with Taehyung before turning to face Jungkook. “You sure it’s not about Eun-ji?”
At the mention of her name, Jungkook's grip on his phone tightened slightly. He sighed, leaning back against the wall, his eyes softening with a sadness he couldn’t hide. “I’m still waiting,” he admitted quietly.
The rest of the members fell silent, giving him their full attention.
“It’s been a week, and she hasn’t said anything about that night,” Jungkook continued, his voice low but laced with emotion. “I told her I’d give her time, but… I don’t know. It’s hard, you know? Just waiting.”
Jimin placed a hand on his shoulder, his voice gentle. “It’s tough, but you did the right thing by giving her space. If she needs time, then that’s what you should give her.”
Taehyung nodded in agreement, though his expression was more serious. “But, Jungkook… You also need to take care of yourself. Waiting too long can hurt, especially if you don’t know what’s going on in her head.”
Jungkook’s eyes dropped to the floor, his sadness more visible than he realized. He had tried to stay strong, but the uncertainty was eating away at him. The thought of Eun-ji not returning his feelings, or worse, losing their connection altogether, weighed heavily on his heart.
“I just wish I knew what she was thinking,” Jungkook muttered. “I’d rather know where I stand than be stuck waiting like this.”
The room fell into a contemplative silence. No one had the right answers, and Jungkook knew his members were just trying to help. But it didn’t change the fact that the waiting was becoming unbearable.
Later that evening, after practice wrapped up, Jungkook made his way back to his apartment. The night air was cool, but it did little to ease the restlessness that had settled deep in his bones. He walked slowly, his head down, his thoughts consumed by the uncertainty of his situation with Eun-ji.
As he reached his apartment building, Jungkook’s phone buzzed in his pocket. His heart skipped a beat as he pulled it out, hoping against hope.
His breath caught when he saw her name on the screen.
**Eun-ji**: *Can you come over? I need to talk.*
Jungkook stared at the message for a long moment, his mind racing. Was this it? Was she finally ready to talk about that night?
His hands shook slightly as he typed out a quick response.
**Jungkook**: *I’ll be there in 10 minutes.*
He didn’t waste another second, turning around and heading straight for Eun-ji’s place. His heart pounded in his chest with a mix of anticipation and fear. What would she say? Was she finally sure of her feelings, or was this the end of whatever had started between them?
By the time he reached her apartment, his nerves were a tangled mess. He took a deep breath, trying to steady himself before knocking on the door.
Moments later, the door opened, and there stood Eun-ji, her face unreadable. She stepped aside to let him in without a word, and Jungkook’s heart sank a little. The air between them felt heavy, filled with the unspoken tension that had built up over the past week.
Jungkook followed her into the living room, his eyes scanning her for any sign of what was to come. She sat down on the sofa, motioning for him to do the same. He hesitated for a moment but eventually sat down next to her, though there was a noticeable distance between them.
The silence stretched on for what felt like forever before Eun-ji finally spoke, her voice soft, almost hesitant.
“Jungkook… I’m sorry I’ve been quiet.”
He swallowed hard, forcing himself to stay calm. “It’s okay. I told you I’d wait.”
She looked down at her hands, fidgeting slightly. “I’ve been thinking a lot. About that night. About… us.”
His heart clenched at her words, every muscle in his body tense as he waited for her to continue.
“I didn’t know what to say because I wasn’t sure of my own feelings,” she admitted, her voice barely above a whisper. “But this past week, with you not around… I realized something.”
Jungkook’s breath caught, his eyes glued to her. This was it. This was the moment he had been waiting for.
Eun-ji finally looked up, her eyes meeting his. “I miss you. More than I thought I would. And it made me realize that maybe… maybe I’ve been scared to admit that I feel the same way.”
Jungkook stared at her, his heart racing. “Eun-ji… are you saying…?”
She nodded, a soft, uncertain smile playing on her lips. “I don’t want to be unsure anymore. I want to give this—us—a chance.”
Jungkook’s chest swelled with emotion, relief flooding through him like a tidal wave. He reached out, gently taking her hand in his. “You have no idea how long I’ve waited to hear you say that.”
Eun-ji squeezed his hand, her eyes filled with the vulnerability that had been missing from their relationship before. “I’m still scared,” she admitted. “But I don’t want to keep running from this.”
Jungkook smiled, his heart lighter than it had been in weeks. “We’ll figure it out together.”
And just like that, the distance that had once stretched between them disappeared, replaced by a new understanding—a promise to face the future together, no matter how uncertain it might be.
