I ran as fast as I could. Even though it was beginning to hurt to breathe, my legs felt like they were about to give way. I had to get away, back to the Marauder, but Crosshair's words still echoed in my mind.
Flashback
"Omega, you have to take the ship and get out of here," Crosshair said, wincing from the pain as she lowered him to sit down.
"No!" she exclaimed, tears running down her cheeks. "I won't leave you! You're the only one I have left." With trembling hands, she started to take off his armour to examine the wound.
"Th-there has to be something we can do?" she said, looking at the injury on his chest. It didn't look good."Omega, there's no time-"
"Yes, there is!" she yelled, losing her composure. "There has to be a way. Please, Crosshair, we lost the others; I can't afford to lose you too." Her voice was barely a whisper.
"Omega, I know it's hard, but the others... they died protecting you. You can't let their sacrifice mean nothing." He forced out his breaths, getting shallower.
"Ome-khoff, khoff-Omega, listen to me," he said, turning her face to look at him.
"Before the guards get here, you have to get to the ship and get out of here. Once you reach hyperspace, contact Rex and tell him what happened-"
"THEY COULDN'T HAVE GONE FAR! SPREAD OUT AND FIND THEM!!" The guards were getting closer to where they were hiding. They had to get out of there.
"Now, Omega! Get out of here! I'll try to slow them down while you run," Crosshair said, trying to stand back up, only to almost fall forward before Omega caught him and helped him up.
"But Crosshair-"
"Omega, that's not a request; that's an order!" He started to lose his patience with her. Taking out two blasters, he handed one to Omega and kept one for himself.
"Only use it if necessary, got that?"
"Yes." Rubbing her nose and sniffling, she saw Crosshair wipe away some of her tears.
"You should get going now," he said, turning in the direction where the guards would be distracting them to give Omega a chance to escape. Omega walked toward the direction of the Marauder but stopped and spun around for one last time.
"Will I see you again?" she asked, new tears forming in her eyes and making her vision blurry.
"Maybe someday, kid," he said. "If somehow I survive this... I'll come find you." She smiled, wiped her tears, and ran toward the ship. Crosshair watched her go, tears forming in his eyes, thinking of how his sister had already lost all her brothers due to the explosion during the rescue from Mount Tantiss.
He didn't care that the guards had found and circled him, aiming their guns at him; he was ready to die for his sister and for the pain he had caused his brothers when he chose the Empire over them. He aimed his blaster and shot...End of Flashback
Once Omega saw the ship in sight, that's when she heard it:
"Ahhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh!"
Her brother's scream echoed through the tunnels. Yet she kept running, following Crosshair's orders. New tears streamed down her face as she almost reached the ship. Once she got inside, she powered it up and flew far, far away from there. She took one last look at the crumbling building and the fires still burning where her brothers had been killed.Putting the ship into autopilot, Omega slid to the floor of the Marauder, sobbing her heart out, screaming, kicking-doing anything that would help with the enormous pain in her heart.
