San Diego, 1998...
Brielle wakes up to the sound of birds chirping outside her window. It's a normal peaceful day for the 6-year-old. Brielle rolls out of her bed and makes it downstairs where she sees her mother packing a suitcase.
"Mommy, where are you going?" Brielle asks.
Her mother looks up and sees her daughter's face and immediately stops packing and picks up Brielle. With Brielle on her hip she takes her to the kitchen and sets her down on a stool. "I'm going to wake up your brother and I will tell you both why I am packing. Okay?"
"Okay mommy"
Soon, Serena, Brielle's mother, comes downstairs with her twin brother Grayson who's rubbing the crust out of his eyes. Grayson climbs up the stool next to Brielle to sit.
Serena places her hands on the counter and takes a deep breath. "Mommy has to go away for a while."
The twins look at their mother in confusion. They've just been reunited with their mother after being with their grams for three years. "But mommy we just got you back," Grayson whines.
"I know Grayson, but mommy needs to go. I have to go. I need to go take care of grams."
The twins look at each other with suspicion. "Mommy, why cant we go with you?"Brielle asks.
"Maybe another day Bri-Bri. But for right now, it has to be only me."
Brielle tugs at her star pajama pants. Unsure if her mother was telling her the truth. Just then, a knock was heard at the door.
Serena let her head fall back before making her way to open the front door. As Serena opens the door, a short, picturesque figure came through the front door. It was Katherine.
