Evelyn's heart pounded in her chest as she followed Ethan up the grand staircase, his broad shoulders silhouetted in the dim light of the hallway. The silence between them was thick, every step laden with tension. The memories of their earlier encounter still lingered in the air, charged with a mix of fear, defiance, and something far more dangerous.

As they neared her room, she could feel the heat from his body, the way his presence seemed to dominate the space around him. She hated how aware she was of him, how her pulse quickened with every glance he cast her way.

Ethan stopped just outside her door, turning to face her with that same piercing gaze that made her insides churn. For a moment, he just looked at her, his eyes tracing the line of her jaw, the curve of her lips. She felt exposed under his scrutiny, every nerve in her body on high alert.

"I warned you, Evelyn," he said softly, his voice low and dangerous. "You're playing with fire."

She swallowed hard, trying to steady her breathing. "I didn't ask to be here."

Ethan's eyes darkened, and in one swift movement, he closed the distance between them, pinning her against the door. His hand gripped her waist, pulling her flush against his body, and Evelyn gasped at the sudden proximity. The heat of his touch was undeniable, sending a surge of electricity through her veins.

"You don't get to make excuses," he growled, his breath warm against her ear. "Not when you knew exactly what would happen if you tried to run."

Her heart raced, a mixture of fear and something far more dangerous swirling inside her. She should have pushed him away, should have fought against the hold he had on her. But the way his body pressed against hers, the intensity of his gaze—it made her head spin. She hated how her body reacted to him, how her breath hitched at the feel of his hand on her skin.

"Ethan," she whispered, her voice trembling as she looked up at him. "You can't keep me here."

His grip tightened slightly, not enough to hurt, but enough to remind her of the power he held over her. "Oh, I can," he said, his lips brushing the curve of her neck, sending a shiver down her spine. "And you know it."

Evelyn's breath quickened as his mouth hovered just above her skin, his presence overwhelming. Her body was betraying her, responding to the heat of his touch, the deep timbre of his voice. She clenched her fists at her sides, trying to fight against the rising tide of emotions threatening to consume her.

"You're mine, Evelyn," he murmured, his lips grazing her ear. "And you'll learn to stop fighting me."

Evelyn's pulse raced, her chest rising and falling rapidly as she struggled to maintain control. But the way Ethan's hand slid to the small of her back, pulling her closer, made it impossible to think clearly. She felt his breath against her skin, his fingers trailing lightly down her spine, igniting a fire that burned hotter with every second.

"Tell me, Evelyn," Ethan whispered, his voice a low, dangerous rumble. "Are you going to try to run again?"

Her heart hammered in her chest, and she knew the answer he wanted. She knew what he was doing, the power he held over her. But she couldn't stop the words that slipped from her lips.

"No."

Ethan's lips curved into a wicked smile, his eyes glinting with satisfaction. He leaned in closer, his mouth brushing against her neck, and Evelyn's breath hitched. The sensation sent a jolt of electricity through her body, and she closed her eyes, fighting to keep control of her own emotions.

"Good girl," he murmured, his voice a dangerous purr.

Before she could react, Ethan released her, stepping back with a slow, deliberate movement. The sudden absence of his touch left her breathless, her body still humming from the intensity of their encounter. She hated herself for how easily she had surrendered to him, how her body had reacted despite her best efforts to resist.
