As the autumn breeze drew cold around Shuichi's pale face, and he shivered at his desk, he couldn't help but feel like something was missing.

If he wasn't the ultimate detective, he may have ignored this and hoped the thought would come back later. Or maybe he'd even just focus on something else. Something more relatively important like mentally preparing to say 'here' during the role call.

To bad he was the ultimate detective. And because he was he couldn't ignore even the smallest of mysteries. (Maybe he'd regret it later when he sounded like a frog mating during the role and a round of snickers and giggles will erupt from his class but he will cross that bridge when he gets there.)

Alright! Investigation Start.

Quickly his analytical gold eyes scanned across the otherwise dull room. Otherwise dull if it didn't contain the vital futures of the country inside.

His eyes latched onto Miu. Her soft blonde hair was a stark difference compared to the bondage outfit she called a uniform. It seemed like she was having an enthusiastic conversation with Kiibo, who seemed to want nothing more to run out the door and hide. So nothing to out of the ordinary.

His eyes skipped over them as the feeling of missing something didn't seem to tingle at them and overall they seemed to be normal- err, ultimate normal.

As he focused on the next people of interest, Himiko and Tenko, whom of which was erratically pestering the former, he felt a hand slam into his back and knock the breath out of him. He coughed loudly as he turned around to stare at the culprit.

"Hey sidekick!" Kaito beamed at him with his hands on the sides of his galaxy purple jacket. Ah the ultimate astronaut.

Beside Kaito was Maki who looked suspiciously similar to Kiibo from earlier, minus the weakness in demeanor. With Maki's dagger glares hes not sure it's possible for someone to even think she was weak. As he glanced over her once again she seemed to be growing even scarier.

An air of silence surrounded him awkwardly when he snapped out of his thinking. It wasn't long until he realized he had just been staring at them both for several seconds. That definitely explained Maki's scary look.

"Hey Kaito, hey Maki, sorry for taking so long to answer, I kind of was um just-," He didn't even get the chance to finish his ramble of apologies before a boisterous laugh interrupted him and a large calloused hand was once again knocking the air out of him. As he looked up from where he was apparently staring nervously at the floor with his hair over his eyes, he noticed that Maki and Kaito both seemed amused, moreso the latter but he could see a faint smile on Maki's face.

"That's my sidekick! Always analyzing and doing all that detective stuff! I'd expect nothing less from a companion of the great Kaito Momota!" Momota stood proudly at him as Maki fondly rolled her eyes behind him.

Shuichi, despite the overwhelmingness of Kaito washing over him took note over the fact that neither of them seemed to think or at least act like something was unusual or missing. So it was likely that the thing missing was something Shuichi was more inclined to think about than them.

'But if you want to be a star detective, you have to have solid evidence and confirmation.' A voice sounding suspiciously like his uncle sounded in his head.

"Hey Maki, Kaito, have you noticed anything missing?" He asked curiously at his two friends. Kaito is more open with his emotions so he was sure he wasn't to know of something different but Maki might have the feeling and just isn't showing it.

Kaito seemed to think with his hand on his chin for a second as he looked off at the roof. After a second a look of panic spread across his features.

"Oh shit! Thanks dude! I don't know how you knew that I forgot to grab my book project from the dorms today but seriously thanks." Kaito motions to Maki to come with him. Maki just sighs and follows him as Kaito awkwardly runs like a confident jock out the classroom door, Maki in tow.

'Welp,' Shuichi found himself thinking. They weren't to much help. Atleast not directly, atleast now he knew that the thing missing wasn't profoundly obvious and was much more connected to him than Kaito and Maki. Or at least he assumes that it wasn't connected to Maki. He's sure if she had anything to important to say she would've said it to him before she left with Kaito.

As the time clicked forward just a bit more. Shuichi found himself frustrated. If he was such a great detective then how come he couldnt solve this simple mystery?! Just as he felt the anger and frustration grow higher within him he heard Kaede's advice she had given him the last time he got frustrated with a mystery come to mind.

'If you can't seem to see any contradictions, then close your eyes!'

At the time, he almost rolled his eyes at her words. He was to angry to hear her jokes. But back then, he just took a look at her face, her deep purple eyes and serious eyebrows, and he saw sincerity. So despite the disbelief back then, he tried it.

As shuichi sat at his desk now, Kaede was across the classroom. She seemed to feel his stare and smiled at him before turning back to her conversation with Rantaro. He remembered her words and decided that trying her advice once more couldn't hurt.

'Okay Shuichi, close your eyes and listen, feel, taste, use your other senses.'

He closed his long mascara coated eyelashes, and focused.

The first thing he noticed was the sounds. Broadly, it was quieter. But more specifically it felt more calm and less chaotic in the room.

The next he noticed was that his lips tasted dry, which was unusual because for some he reason he felt he was more actively talking and nervously biting his lip in the mornings.

Last he noticed that his head felt less enthusiastic, which he assumed was because of the thing missing.

As he opened his eyes, he wasn't met with the sight of the classroom he saw before he closed them.

Instead he was met with a hole in the roof and a blob of purple laying in a pile of drywall and other parts of the roof.

As the purple devil with a checkered scarf raised their dust covered head something clicked in his head. (Though that might just be his ears popping from the loud bitching coming from Miu and the sounds of Angie loudly praising Atua.)

As the click snapped in his head. And the purple eyes, befitting of the purple devil Ouma stared into his wife eyes he felt less empty.

'Ah,' he thought amusedly, 'Thats what I was missing.'

End of chapter.

A/N+++

Hey guys! Sorry for not updating for two years. I was in prison until a week ago, and then just when I had settled back into my house a large tree fell on it thanks to Hurricane Helene. Sorry this is so short and I'm sorry but I won't be updating frequently lol. I just felt bad about not updating when this fic was all I could think about in prison. Even when I got a longer time for selling more slippery soap for people to conventionally place in the showers for others. And especially when I was served purple and blue mashed potatoes, (it's their colors!) too bad I got some in my beard while eating and I ended up slamming the tray into another inmates head so I didn't get to finish.

Anyways, this note is getting long. I haven't read over this chapter but I'm sure it's ass. Speaking of ass my soap business has recently started out of prison and is depressingly already booming. My main customer is a nice chap I met on my way out. I believe his name was Pee tiddy or something. Alright bye.
