Sunday came, and I took my daughter shopping.
"So, do you have an image of what you want to wear?" I asked Sheila while we were in the car.
"Only slightly, but it will definitely be a dress in the 60s style with polka dot patterns!"
"What about Kristin?"
"Actually, she wanted to come with us today, but she had to go to her grandmother's house with her father." It was amazing how Sheila could be so absorbed in her phone, yet still manage to talk to me. "So, we decided that she would choose her dress, with an eye to what I would buy for myself!"
"By the way, my dear, in addition to choosing a dress, we'll need to find a wig for me." Even just mentioning it made me feel quite embarrassed.
Sheila put her phone away, indicating that she was very interested in this topic of conversation. She looked at me with a sly smile and said, "So you haven't changed your mind after all?"
"How could I after I promised you that I would!" Of course, I won't admit that I wanted to renounce my words more than once!
"It's just that after that evening you completely ignored the topic, and I didn't want to bring it up again!"
Sheila was at that amazing age when she could act like a little girl one moment and a grown woman the next.
"So, you're going to help me choose, right?"
"Of course! We will try everything we find. We need to find the perfect wig for you!" I looked at my daughter with disapproval, and she immediately smiled. "I'm joking, Dad, don't worry, I won't embarrass you in front of people, so let's pretend to pick it out for me!"
In the next four hours, we probably visited all the clothing stores in the mall to find the perfect dress for Sheila! In this regard, she is very similar to her mother, who was just as meticulous!
Some fathers would probably be annoyed, but I enjoy spending time with my daughter. And all the annoyance pays off when I able to see her happy smile.
Now it's was my turn! In the entire mall, there was only one store with what we were looking for. Gazing at the shelves, we often whisper to each other, discussing what to choose. The first thing that caught Sheila's eye was a long blonde wig, which was very similar to my wife's preferred color, but I thought it was wrong to imitate Olivia.
Pretty quickly, we agreed that we should choose a wig with long hair, because it would be much easier to hide my facial features.
My daughter almost fell in love with the bright red color, but I was again having to disappoint her. Something like that would be too attention-grabbing!
It must have been an hour before we found a compromise. The wig I bought was light brown with a slight gloss, and it very much resembled natural hair.
On the way home, my daughter asked me a tricky question, and I didn't immediately realize that I was being led into a trap. "Dad, have you already decided what you're going to do with the dress?"
"Well, I have an idea, but I haven't really worked on it yet." It was a small lie.
"I think you are planning to buy something online. You have a great taste, but I'm not sure if you'll find something that matches my dress perfectly. So, please don't do it without me!"
"To tell you the truth, I was thinking about trying to find something in your mom's closet."
"Oh, I hadn't even thought about that! Sounds like a lovely idea! Dad, have you tried anything on yet?" "Sheila caught me with that question!" I immediately blushed, not knowing what to say!
