Chapter 14: A Scent in the Air
Seungmin stirred awake, a wave of heat washing over him before he even opened his eyes. His body felt heavy, and there was a thin layer of sweat covering his forehead. His muscles ached, and his skin tingled with an uncomfortable warmth that was all too familiar. His heart sank as he realized what was happening.
His heat had come.
Usually, he could feel it coming, but this time it had crept up on him sooner than expected. Seungmin wiped the sweat from his brow, trying to steady his breathing, but the rising heat inside him made it hard to think clearly. It was the alpha pheromones—Hyunjin's presence had triggered his heat earlier than usual.
He groaned softly, feeling weak as he sat up in the bed. He hadn’t even noticed Hyunjin had left for work already. His scent lingered in the room, strong and intoxicating, making Seungmin’s omega instincts flare up. He needed comfort, and the one thing that could soothe him was the scent of his mate.
Without even thinking, Seungmin found himself getting out of bed and wandering toward Hyunjin’s closet. His movements were slow and unsteady, his body betraying him as the heat consumed him more and more. He rummaged through Hyunjin’s clothes, searching for anything that carried his scent—his alpha’s scent.
His hands found one of Hyunjin’s casual shirts first, the fabric soft against his fingertips. He pressed it to his nose, inhaling deeply. The strong, musky scent of Hyunjin washed over him, filling his senses, calming him in a way nothing else could. He grabbed more shirts—casual ones mostly, because the work clothes smelled too much like cologne. He dragged them to the center of the room, his legs wobbling as he struggled to keep his balance.
Seungmin knew he was supposed to build a proper nest in his own room, but he didn’t have the energy to walk that far. His body was too weak, too overwhelmed by the heat. His limbs felt like jelly, and every inch of him burned with an uncomfortable desire. So, he made his nest right there in the middle of Hyunjin’s bedroom.
He arranged Hyunjin’s shirts and jackets into a pile, surrounding himself with the alpha’s scent. His heart was racing, and his breathing had become erratic. The heat was getting worse, but Seungmin didn’t know what to do about it. He’d never… touched himself before. He didn’t know how to deal with the overwhelming sensations coursing through his body.
All he could do was lie there, curled up in Hyunjin’s clothes, his fingers clutching the fabric tightly as he rolled around in his makeshift nest. The scent of his mate was the only thing keeping him grounded, but even that wasn’t enough to soothe the intensity of the heat.
He whimpered softly, closing his eyes as he pressed his face into one of Hyunjin’s shirts, breathing in his scent again. The need was unbearable, but Seungmin was too scared and too inexperienced to do anything about it. All he could do was wait, hoping that Hyunjin would return soon.
Hours passed, though it felt like an eternity, and Seungmin was growing weaker by the minute. His skin burned, his body trembling with need, but he refused to give in to the instinct screaming at him. He couldn’t.
Then, suddenly, he heard the door open.
Hyunjin had returned.
The scent hit Hyunjin the moment he stepped inside, strong and sweet—an omega in heat. His instincts flared up immediately, his alpha responding to the irresistible scent. He tried to hold himself back, tried to suppress the primal urge that was bubbling to the surface, but his feet moved on their own, following the trail of that sweet, intoxicating smell.
It led him straight to his bedroom.
When he opened the door, the sight before him made his heart race. Seungmin was curled up in the middle of the room, surrounded by Hyunjin’s clothes, his small body trembling as he buried his face into one of Hyunjin’s shirts. He was wearing one of Hyunjin’s oversized office shirts, the fabric hanging loosely off his frame, barely covering his thighs.
Hyunjin’s alpha instincts screamed at him to take Seungmin, to claim him right there and then, but he held himself back. His knuckles turned white as he gripped the doorframe, forcing himself to stay calm.
“Seungmin…” Hyunjin’s voice was low, strained, as if he was barely holding himself together.
Seungmin didn’t respond at first, too lost in his heat to even notice Hyunjin’s presence. But when Hyunjin stepped closer, the scent of his alpha made Seungmin’s eyes flutter open. His gaze was hazy, his cheeks flushed pink from the heat. He looked so small, so vulnerable.
“Hyunjin…” Seungmin’s voice was barely a whisper, weak and breathless.
Hyunjin clenched his fists, fighting the urge to give in to the primal pull. But the sight of Seungmin in heat, surrounded by his scent, made it nearly impossible to resist.
He knelt beside Seungmin, his heart pounding in his chest. He reached out, his hand brushing Seungmin’s cheek gently, wiping away the beads of sweat that had gathered there.
“Are you okay?” Hyunjin’s voice was softer now, concerned, despite the overwhelming urge to give in to his alpha instincts.
Seungmin blinked up at him, his breathing heavy. He shook his head slightly, too overwhelmed to form any words. His body ached with need, but he didn’t know how to ask for help.
Hyunjin’s eyes darkened, the scent of Seungmin’s heat pulling at him, but he refused to take advantage of Seungmin’s vulnerable state. He had to hold back—for Seungmin’s sake.
“I’m here,” Hyunjin whispered, his thumb brushing gently across Seungmin’s cheek. “I’m not going anywhere."
He looked something like that
