Travis rushed home, signing in relief when was he saw his girl waiting for him at the door. She was okay.
"Travis!" She exclaimed, pouting.
"Yeah baby?" Travis asked, guiding her back inside.
"Where did you go? I was worried" Taylor frowned, crossing her arms.
"I just had to take care of something, I'm sorry baby" Travis wrapped his arms around her from behind, resting them on her baby bump.
"Okay" she whispered, leaning back into his embrace.Travis took a deep breath, knowing that he had to tell her now. They had to leave as soon as they could, it wasn't safe.
"Taylor" his voice sounded wary. "We need to leave"
"Huh? What?" Taylor sounded confused, stepping away and turning to look at her husband.
"We need to pack up the essentials and leave as soon as possible. Something happened" he tried to hurry her along, but she wouldn't move, staring at him in confusion.
"We need to leave? But... What about our life here?" Taylor asked nervously.
"I'm sorry baby, we'll make a new one with our baby wherever we end up, but for now we need to go. It's not safe" Taylor nodded slowly.
"So... The essentials? Clothes and stuff?" she asked, already setting off towards the bedroom.
"Yep" Travis nodded. He pulled his phone out of his pocket, thankfully seeing no more messages there. He stood in the hallway, watching as his wife slowly made her way up the stairs. He felt horrible, that his old life affected this one and the person he loved the most. He was so thankful for her, thankful that she trusted him enough to just do as he said without even knowing why. He vowed that he would do everything he could to protect her; he could never live with himself if something happened to the woman he loved because of him.
"What else do we need? I've got some clothes for both of us, our toiletries, as well as stuff for the baby and our legal documents" Taylor asked as Travis entered the bedroom.
"Your guitar? You want that, surely" Taylor was very musical and loved singing and writing her own songs.
"I can take that?!" She exclaimed, her face lighting up.
"Of course you can baby" Travis smiled as she rushed out the room, returning with it in its bag."I just need to do grab something, you zip up these cases, okay?" Travis left the room, heading to his office. He unlocked the compartment under the desk with a key, sliding out the pistol. He slipped it into his pocket, gathering up the extra ammo and taking that with him too. And taking one last look around the room, he left, locking the door behind him.
Travis was about to head back to the bedroom when he heard soft cries coming from the baby's nursery. He sighed, changing direction and entering the room where his wife was.
She was standing with her back to him but he could hear her sniffles, see as her shoulders shook with each sob.
"Oh baby" he signed sympathetically, wrapping his arms around her from behind.
"We decorated this for our baby and they're never going to see it" Taylor sobbed even harder, turning around and burying her face into Travis's chest.
"I know Tay, but we'll make them a new nursery at our new house! It's going to be okay" he rubbed her back comfortingly as he heard her cried start to subside."Are you wearing that? Or are you going to change?" Travis asked, gesturing to Taylor's outfit of maternity leggings and one of Travis's tshirts.
"Why? You want me to change?" Taylor asked angrily, her mood changing suddenly.
"No no, of course not, I was just wondering" Travis quickly rushed to his defence. Taylor's pregnancy mood swings were no joke.
"Good" Taylor scowled, leaving the room.Travis glanced at his watch, swearing when he noticed the time.
"Tay, get your shoes on! We need to leave!" He shouted to the other room. Taylor grumbled something, but still made her way downstairs- slowly, so she didn't trip- slipping on her crocs. Those were the only shoes she could get on without help at this stage in her pregnancy.Travis grabbed the two suitcases and backpack, as well as Taylor's guitar, hauling them downstiars.
"That's what you're wearing?" Travis asked, spotting Taylor's shoes.
"I can't get any others on by myself" Taylor grumbled at him.
"Okay, okay. I'll put these in the car and then I'll come and help you put on a pair of your trainers, okay?" Taylor nodded.Once the bags were in the car Travis jogged back up to the house, quickly grabbing Taylor's trainers. He slipped them on her feet as Taylor held on to the banister, lacing them up quickly. He already had his own shoes on and so he just discarded their phones on the side, grabbing Taylor's hand.
"But my phone? I won't be able to call my mom" Taylors eyes were wide and sad, looking up at Travis like a lost puppy.
"It's okay, I'll get you a new one, yeah?" Travis told her gently. Taylor nodded as they exited the house, locking the door behind them. They made their way down the drive hand in hand, and Taylor looked once more towards their home before climbing into the car.Travis started the engine, squeezing Taylor's thigh comfortingly.
"It's going to be okay, we're in this together" he smiled, pulling out of the drive.
