The next week felt like a dream for Ha-Eun. Each day passed in a haze of excitement as she and Jungkook navigated the nuances of their new relationship. They exchanged messages constantly, met for study sessions, and spent their lunch breaks together, their connection growing stronger with each interaction. However, with each passing day, the weight of the world around them began to creep in.

It was a sunny Monday afternoon when the school buzzed with whispers that sent a chill down Ha-Eun's spine. As she walked to her locker, she overheard snippets of conversations echoing in the hallways.

“Did you hear about Jungkook and Ha-Eun?” one girl said.

“I heard they’re just a fling. He wouldn’t seriously date her,” another girl replied, her tone dripping with judgment.

Ha-Eun felt her heart drop as she quickly turned her back, trying to shake off the words. What did they know about her and Jungkook? They didn’t understand their connection or the chemistry that sparked between them.

Just then, Jungkook rounded the corner, his expression brightening when he saw her. “Hey! Ready for lunch?” he asked, flashing her that radiant smile that made her heart flutter.

“Yeah, just a sec,” she replied, forcing a smile as she tried to push away the nagging doubts in her mind.

They made their way to the cafeteria, and as they settled at their usual table, Jungkook launched into a story about his weekend, animatedly recounting his photography escapades. Ha-Eun loved listening to him, his passion shining through every word. Yet, as she listened, the whispers lingered in the back of her mind.

“...and then I got this amazing shot of the sunset! You should have seen it!” Jungkook said, his eyes sparkling. “I wish you could have been there.”

“I wish I could have too. That sounds beautiful,” Ha-Eun replied, trying to focus on him.

But just as she opened her mouth to share her thoughts, Minji sauntered over, her presence immediately dousing the warmth of the moment.

“Hey, Kookie!” Minji chirped, her eyes darting between them. “I was just talking to some people about the upcoming spring dance. Are you going?”

“Uh, I’m not sure yet,” Jungkook said, glancing at Ha-Eun. “I might be going with Ha-Eun.”

“Oh?” Minji raised an eyebrow, a smirk playing on her lips. “That’s cute. Just remember, it’s a big event. Are you sure you’re ready for something like that?”

Ha-Eun’s heart sank. Minji’s words felt like a jab, and she could sense Jungkook’s irritation. “What do you mean by that?” he asked, his tone sharp.

“I just think it’s important to choose wisely,” Minji replied, her smile too sweet to be genuine. “You know how quickly things can change in high school.”

Ha-Eun felt exposed under Minji's gaze, the weight of her words pressing down on her. “We’ll figure it out,” Ha-Eun said firmly, trying to stand her ground.

“Yeah,” Jungkook added, his voice steady. “We’re just enjoying getting to know each other. Right, Ha-Eun?”

“Right,” she agreed, grateful for his support, though the doubt still simmered beneath the surface.

Minji shrugged, her expression nonchalant. “Just saying, don’t let anyone’s opinion affect you two. Anyway, let me know if you want to join our group for the dance. I’m sure it’ll be fun!”

With that, she waved goodbye, leaving behind an awkward silence. Ha-Eun could feel Jungkook’s tension radiating off him, and she sensed the storm brewing within him.
