★ “ Boring Days, Sweet Nights ” ★
The clock on the wall ticked rhythmically, filling the cozy living room with a calm silence. Gautami sat curled up on the couch, a medical textbook in her lap, but her eyes were focused on the door. The moment she heard the soft jingle of keys, her face lit up.
As the door opened, Abhyudaya stepped inside, looking every bit the successful boss he was—dressed in a crisp black suit with his tie loosened slightly, his hair still perfectly in place despite a long day of meetings. His tired eyes softened the second they met hers.
“ Finally, ” Gautami sighed, tossing her textbook aside and rushing over to him. Without missing a beat, she wrapped her arms around his waist and buried her face in his chest.
Abhyudaya smiled, wrapping his arms tightly around her and lifting her slightly off the ground. “ Missed me that much, huh? ” he teased, kissing the top of her head.
“ You have no idea, ” Gautami mumbled against his shirt, inhaling his familiar scent of cologne and just a hint of coffee. “ Today was so boring. The hospital was slow, and I had to go through case files for hours. ”
Abhyudaya chuckled, still holding her as if she weighed nothing. “ Poor you. You had to work, and I was just lounging around in the office, right? ”
“ Yes! ” she said, pulling back just enough to look up at him. Her eyes twinkled with mischief. “ At least you get to boss people around. All I get to do is chase after patients. ”
“ Hey, I chase people too, ” he shot back, smirking. “ Just… more in a ‘Where’s that report?’ way than ‘Let me take your temperature.’ ”
She giggled, her mood already lifted by his presence. “ You should try it. Maybe it would make your day more interesting. ”
“ I don't know if I have the patience for it. One day in your shoes, and I'd probably get kicked out of the hospital for annoying everyone. ”
“ I can imagine, ” she said, shaking her head fondly.
He let out a dramatic sigh, releasing her but still keeping one arm draped over her shoulders as they walked to the dining table. “ How about we start with dinner? I’m starving. ”
After a cozy dinner filled with teasing and casual chatter, they retreated to the living room. Abhyudaya collapsed onto the sofa, patting the space next to him. “ Come here, Mrs. Abhyudaya Mohan. ”
Gautami laughed at the way he said her name, as if still savoring the novelty of it. “ Since when are you so formal? ”
“ Since I married the love of my life, ” he said, his tone suddenly soft, his eyes warm.
She smiled, settling next to him, and leaned her head on his shoulder. “ You know, ” she began, her voice quieter now, “ even though it was a boring day, you always make it better just by coming home. ”
Abhyudaya shifted slightly, lifting her chin with his fingers so he could meet her gaze. “ You know, ” he whispered back, leaning in closer, “ you're the best part of my day, too. ”
Before she could respond, his lips were on hers, soft and lingering, filled with the unspoken emotions of a long day apart. The kiss deepened, slowly turning from sweet to passionate. Gautami’s fingers tangled in his hair, pulling him closer as if she could never get enough of him.
When they finally pulled back, slightly breathless, Abhyudaya rested his forehead against hers. " I don’t think I’ll ever get tired of this. "
“ Of what? ” she asked, her voice still a little shaky from the intensity of their kiss.
“ Kissing you, ” he said, pressing a soft kiss to her nose. “ Being with you. ”
Gautami smiled, her cheeks flushed as she shifted in his lap, snuggling closer. “ You know, ” she said playfully, “ I’m not tired of it either. ”
Abhyudaya chuckled, brushing a stray strand of hair behind her ear. “ Good, because I’m not done yet. ” With that, he kissed her again, slower this time, savoring every second.
After a few moments, he pulled away, smirking. “ You look tired. ”
“ I’m not tired, ” Gautami protested, her eyes half-lidded with contentment. “Just… really comfortable. ”
Abhyudaya stood up, effortlessly scooping her into his arms. She squealed in surprise, wrapping her arms around his neck as he carried her toward their bedroom. “ Abhi! ” she laughed. “ You don’t have to carry me, you know. ”
“ Yeah, but where’s the fun in that? ” he teased, pushing open the door with his foot.
Gautami rolled her eyes but rested her head on his shoulder, feeling a wave of warmth spread through her. “ You’re too much sometimes. ”
“ Only for you, ” he whispered, lowering her gently onto the bed.
As he leaned over her, brushing his thumb across her cheek, Gautami smiled up at him. “ You know, I could get used to this. ”
Abhyudaya chuckled, leaning down to kiss her forehead. “ Good. Because you’re stuck with me. ”
“ And you know what ” she said softly, her eyes sparkling as she pulled him down for another kiss. “ I wouldn’t want it any other way. ”
As the night unfolded, their world was just the two of them—wrapped up in each other’s arms, with no place they'd rather be.
