Chapter Two: A Confusing Encounter

The sun had just begun to set over the lush fields of Punjab as Bhavika and her family arrived at the sprawling farmhouse in Mohali. The drive had been long, but the sight of the beautifully decorated venue lifted her spirits a bit. String lights glittered across the entrance, and colorful flowers adorned every corner of the estate. Despite her reluctance to attend yet another wedding, Bhavika couldn’t deny the beauty of the place.

After exchanging greetings with the sea of relatives, friends, and strangers, they were finally escorted to their rooms. Bhavika’s mother gave her a once-over, checking if her hair was still in place, before ushering her toward their designated suite.

“Thoda jaldi ready ho jana, meet-and-greet hai shaam ko,” her mother reminded her. Bhavika nodded, rolling her eyes lightly as she closed the door behind her.

The room was spacious, with large windows that opened to a view of the vast garden outside. Bhavika sighed in relief, glad to have a moment alone to unwind before the evening. She rummaged through her suitcase, pulling out a flowy white kurta with gold embroidery, pairing it with chunky gold jhumkas. As she stood before the mirror, carefully adjusting her earrings, she suddenly heard the door click open behind her.

Thinking it was her mother, she didn’t bother to turn around. “Maa, thodi der mein nikalte hain. Don’t worry, I’m almost ready,” she said absentmindedly, concentrating on getting her jhumka to settle perfectly.

But instead of her mother’s voice, a deep male voice replied, “Mujhe nahi pata tha ki yeh shaadi mein aur bhi aise surprise honge.”

Bhavika spun around, startled, her hands still on her earring. Standing at the door, looking equally surprised, was none other than Shubman Gill. He stood there, casually dressed in a crisp white shirt and jeans, his eyebrows raised in confusion.

“Uh… tum kaun ho?” he asked, looking genuinely puzzled as he scanned the room.

“Main? Tum kaun ho? Tum mere room mein kya kar rahe ho?” Bhavika shot back, still processing how a stranger had just walked into her room.

Shubman frowned and glanced at the door, as if double-checking the number. “Yeh mera room hai.”

Bhavika blinked, her mind racing. "Tumhara room? Yeh mera room hai! Mujhe yeh diya gaya hai jab mein aayi the."

They stood there for a second, both staring at each other in silence. Then, Shubman chuckled. “Lagta hai koi galti ho gayi hai.” He glanced around the room, as if trying to figure out how they had both ended up in the same space.

Bhavika couldn't help but laugh too, the awkwardness of the moment dissolving into amusement. “So, hum dono ko ek hi room diya gaya hai? Waah, kya planning hai shaadi ki,” she said, shaking her head. “Punjab ki shaadiyon ke surprises waise famous hain, lekin yeh toh naya hai.”

Shubman grinned, stepping further into the room and closing the door behind him. “I swear, I thought main galat jagah aa gaya hoon. Lekin tumhare expression dekh ke lag raha hai yeh hum dono ka confusion hai.”

“Bilkul,” Bhavika said, still giggling. “Tumhara bhi naam iss room pe likha tha?”

He shook his head. “Nahi, mere valet ko bola gaya tha yeh mera room hai. Lagta hai dono families ki guest lists mix ho gayi hain.”

Bhavika crossed her arms, feeling the humor of the situation settling in. “Achha toh tum room-stealer nikle.”

Shubman chuckled, clearly enjoying the lightheartedness. “Aur tum? Tum jhumka adjust karte karte apne rightful roommate ko darra rahi thi.”

Before Bhavika could reply, the door creaked open again, and this time, both their mothers stood in the doorway, looking utterly confused and somewhat amused.

“Kya chal raha hai yahan?” Shubman’s mom asked, her eyes moving between her son and Bhavika.

Bhavika’s mother’s face lit up with recognition. “Arre! Tum toh Shubman Gill ho na? Tum bhi yeh room mein ho?”

Shubman shrugged, a mischievous grin still on his face. “Lagta hai ki humari families ne hume ek hi room mein daal diya hai by mistake.”

Both mothers exchanged amused glances before bursting into laughter. “Yeh toh galat room allotment ho gaya. Tum dono ko alag rooms diye gaye honge, bas confusion ho gayi. Hum abhi resolve kar dete hain,” Bhavika’s mom said.

“Par achha hai na, tum dono ka introduction bhi ho gaya. Ab jab tak hum rooms change karwate hain, tum log dost ban lo,” Shubman’s mom added with a wink, clearly thrilled at the coincidence.

Bhavika and Shubman exchanged sheepish smiles. “Shayad universe ka idea tha ke hum pehle hi mil lein,” Bhavika joked.

“Lagta toh aisa hi hai,” Shubman replied, his eyes twinkling with amusement.

As the mothers left the room to fix the mix-up, the awkward tension had melted away, replaced by a shared sense of humor and newfound friendship.

“So,” Shubman said, leaning against the wall, “lagta hai hum yeh shaadi thoda interesting banane waale hain.”

Bhavika smiled, adjusting her jhumka again, this time without the pressure. “Well, jab life boring ho toh shayad aise hi surprises zaroori hote hain.”

“Boring? Tumse milke toh mujhe bilkul nahi lagta tumhari life boring ho sakti hai,” Shubman said, flashing a playful grin. Bhavika rolled her eyes but couldn’t suppress her smile.

As they laughed about the strange beginning of their encounter, one thing was clear—this wedding was going to be anything but ordinary.
