Takemichi opened the door after the doorbell rang, revealing Chifuyu in his pyjamas, holding snacks and CDs, grinning ear to ear.
“Movie night!”
For the past few months, this had become their routine—almost every weekend, without fail. Chifuyu didn’t wait for an invitation anymore. He leapt onto the couch, burying himself in the cushions, making himself at home like always. Takemichi couldn’t help but smile at the sight.
This wasn’t always the case, though. The apartment had once been a place Takemichi dreaded coming back to. It was so quiet, the kind of quiet that felt like a constant weight pressing down on him, reminding him that he was alone. His parents had never been married—split up when he was just a kid. The only memory he had of them together was the sound of their arguing, voices raised in anger before his mother walked out for good. After that, his dad had taken a job overseas, leaving him behind.
Takemichi was raised by a nanny, Saku, until she got pregnant and moved away a few years ago. After that, it was just him. Sure, his dad sent money regularly to cover the bills, but that didn’t make the place feel any less empty. The echo of his footsteps in the halls, the dark rooms, the cold dinners alone—it all became too familiar.
He had gotten used to it, or at least that’s what he told himself. But the truth was, every time he turned the key in the lock, he’d brace himself for the silence that greeted him. It was lonely, unbearably so. Even after everything that happened with Toman, with the time-leaping, and with all the friends he had gained and lost along the way, his apartment was still just a space that reminded him of the life he lived on his own.
That was, until Chifuyu started coming around more.
Chifuyu's visits had started as occasional hangouts, but soon, he was over so much that Takemichi barely noticed when his friend stopped asking to come by at all. It just became assumed. The apartment no longer felt empty, especially with Chifuyu leaving little pieces of himself behind—an extra toothbrush in the bathroom, a drawer of clothes in Takemichi’s room, and the occasional snack that would mysteriously appear in the fridge. It was like Chifuyu had carved out a space for himself in Takemichi’s life without even trying.
And it wasn’t just Chifuyu.
Somehow, over time, Takemichi’s place had become a safe haven for other Toman members too. Mikey would show up unannounced, often sprawled on the couch before Takemichi even knew he was there, as if Takemichi’s apartment was a refuge from whatever burdens Mikey carried. There was a quiet peace in Mikey’s presence, even when he didn’t say much. He seemed to like the escape Takemichi’s home offered—away from the chaos, away from the gang, and away from being Mikey, the invincible leader.
Then there was Draken, who would come by sometimes just to check in, as if to make sure Takemichi wasn’t completely falling apart. Hina, too, would occasionally pop by with homemade food, insisting Takemichi wasn’t eating enough. Even Mitsuya, when he wasn’t too busy, found his way over with his sketchbook in hand, silently designing clothes while lounging on Takemichi’s floor.
Before he knew it, his once painfully lonely apartment had become a sort of unofficial hangout. A place where people showed up when they needed to escape their own lives—yet, Takemichi couldn’t help but wonder how they all seemed to sense how much he had needed them too.
Chifuyu, now sprawled on the couch, pulled Takemichi from his thoughts. “So? What do you want to watch?” he asked, holding up two CDs like an excited kid. His hair was swept back by a fluffy headband with cat ears, exposing his forehead in a way that still looked strange to Takemichi. He wasn’t used to seeing Chifuyu’s face so open.
Takemichi eyed the two movies, both of which they’d watched countless times. “How about both?” he suggested.
Chifuyu grinned. “Sounds good,” he said, hopping up to load the first movie into the player.
Takemichi sat down beside him as the intro started playing, and Chifuyu hurried back, as if they didn’t already know every scene by heart.
Takemichi smiled to himself, feeling the familiar warmth settle in. This was his life now—a life filled with chaotic friends and unexpected visits. His once-quiet home had become something more. And for the first time in a long time, he didn’t feel so alone.
A/N: This chapter is a bit shorter. Sorry!!
Since we don't know much about Takemichi's home and family, I made something up that felt plausible.
I hope you like this headcanon of mine!
