As the evening descended, Armaan stood in front of the mirror, absentmindedly buttoning his shirt. His fingers fumbled with the buttons as his mind wandered through endless possibilities of what the night could bring. The thought of Dadi sa’s surprise loomed over him, stirring a mix of unease and uncertainty. He wasn’t sure what to expect, but he knew it would be far from simple.

Suddenly, he felt two gentle hands slip over his, pausing his movements. Abhira stood behind him, her presence calming him instantly. She carefully removed his hands from the buttons, gently fixing the ones he had mistakenly fastened wrong. Armaan looked down at her, a soft smile tugging at his lips.

"You always know how to make things right," he murmured, his voice filled with affection and gratitude.

Abhira didn’t reply with words. Instead, she snuggled into his embrace, wrapping her arms around his waist as she placed a tender kiss right above his heart. Her cheek rested against his chest, and the warmth of her touch grounded him, chasing away some of the nervousness that had been building up inside him.

“I love you,” she whispered softly, her voice barely audible, but those three words were enough to make Armaan feel anchored, secure in the moment.

He exhaled deeply, letting go of some of the tension that had been gnawing at him. “I’m trying to be strong, Abhira… but I’m scared. I’m scared of losing something very precious to me.” His voice wavered, and his hand instinctively tightened around her, as if holding onto her would keep everything safe.

Abhira pulled back slightly, looking up at him with her unwavering eyes. She could feel an unfamiliar feeling gripping her heart too, a sense of unease she couldn’t quite shake. But she remained strong for him, offering a soft smile as she reached for his coat. “You won’t lose anything, Armaan. Not me, not us. You’re stronger than you think.”

She straightened the collar of his coat, her touch gentle but firm. Armaan gazed down at her, admiring her strength and the quiet resilience she had always carried. His eyes traveled to her belly, where their child grew, and his resolve strengthened. This was his world—Abhira and their baby—and he would protect it with everything he had.

As he prepared to leave, she caught his hand, placing it tenderly on her belly. “The two of us will be waiting for you,” she whispered. “And you have to come back to us, just the way you’re leaving now.”

Armaan’s heart swelled at her words. He bent down, pressing a kiss to her forehead, then her belly. “I’ll come back, Abhira. I promise.”

With one last look, he reluctantly stepped away, heading towards the door. Abhira watched him leave, her heart heavy with both love and worry. She held onto her nuptial chain with one hand, the other resting protectively over her belly.

Quietly, she sent a prayer to the gods, pleading for Armaan’s safety. She knew confronting the Poddars wouldn’t be easy for him. They were his family, and he loved them despite everything. But she also knew this was something he had to face, even if it tore at his heart.

She wished she could be there with him, to hold his hand and give him strength, but Armaan had insisted she stay back. He was afraid of something going wrong and wanted to protect her and their child at all costs.

As Armaan sat in the cab on the way to the venue, his thoughts swirled. The city lights outside blurred as his mind wandered to everything that had happened over the past months. The distance he had created from his family, the decision to start a new life with Abhira, and now… returning to face the very people he was about to leave behind.

His heart felt heavy, but he knew he had no choice. This wasn’t just about him anymore—it was about protecting the life he was building with Abhira. He reached into his pocket and pulled out his phone, scrolling absently, feeling the weight of what lay ahead.
