Alabi stormed out of the room with tears blurring his vision.The slap from his father echoed in his mind fueling his
determination to break free.He found himself in a similar solitude of the backyard,surrounded by the withered plants his father had
once tended.Alabi's thoughts swirled;
'why must he control me?Doesn't he trust me?'
memories flooded his mind as he sat on the floor in a corner of his room;
His grandmother's healing
The farm's flourishing under his care
His siblings' laughter and playful teasing
His reflections revealed a pattern,his powers brought joy,but also fear and confinement.As night fell,his mother,Yemi,found him sitting
amidst the shadows
'what is wrong?' she asked gently.
Alabi hesitated,unsure how much to reveal but the compassion in her eyes encourages him
'My father doesn't understand me.He thinks i'm a danger,a curse'.
Yemi's expression softened.
'your father fears for your safety,that is all'
Alabi's frustration resurface 'but why must i hide?why can't i use my abilities to help others?'
'your gifts are a double edged sword,Alabi.They can bring life or destruction'
As they sat together in the darkness,Alabi realized his mother was torn between loyalty to her husband and her son's desire for
freedom.
After a short moment of silence ,Yemi continued
'Your father's fear aren't unfounded,Alabi.People have been searching for someone with your Talents.If.......'
'i know mother.But hiding me won't keep me safe forever'
Yemi's voice drops into a whisper
'I have seen the way you look at your siblings,you want to protect them,to help them.But your gifts are still raw,uncontrolled.
What if you harm someone unintentionally?'
Alabi's face twisted in frustration
'Thats exactly why i need to learn'.
'I want to support you Alabi.But your father....he's trying to protect you'
'protect me?Or control me?'.
The silence grew thick between them,heavy with unspoken words.
Later that night,Alabi laid awake with his mind racing with Yemi's words.He couldn't shake the feeling that his father's protection
was only suffocating him.As he stared at the ceiling his thoughts turned to his siblings
Ronke,the eldest,with her sharp wit and caring nature.Taiwo,the troublemaker,always getting into mischeif.Kehinde,the quiet one,
with a heart full of love.And Ade,the youngest,full of energy and curiosity.
How could he take soo much privilege away from them by being trapped here?
Alabi's resolve hardened.He would find away to meet the priest and master his gifts ,and if it meant going against his father's
wishes....He would do it.
Alabi closed his eyes and took a deep breath.He was ready
