"Felix! You promised you would go!" Jisung's voice echoed through the office, his hands set firmly on his hips as he glared at the exhausted detective pouting in his chair. He looked like an impatient mother, tapping his foot as she waiting for her toddler to run to the car to school.
"But it's so late, and I'm so tired," Felix groaned, throwing himself across his desk like a ragdoll. The weight of his body landed with a resounding thud that seemed to vibrate across the room. slumping dramatically onto his desk with a loud thud, causing several heads in the office to turn.
He let his cheek press against the cool surface, staring off into the distance as if the very thought of moving was unbearable. His voice was muffled as he buried his face in his folded arms, giving him the appearance of a frustrated, overworked student rather than a world-renowned detective.
Jisung didn't relent. He crossed his arms, his finger tapping in impatient rhythm against his forearm. "It's your own fault, you know. You told them this afternoon you'd go down there to help."
"That was in the afternoon," Felix mumbled, his pout visible even from behind the curtain of blond hair that fell over his freckled face. His normally sharp, confident gaze had softened into something petulant and pleading. "It was just one of those things you say to be polite." He shot Jisung a quick, puppy-eyed look, almost hoping his colleague might concede and let him off the hook.
Jisung raised a skeptical eyebrow, unimpressed. "It's just Busan, Felix," he shot back. "At this hour, it shouldn't take you more than an hour, tops."
Felix groaned, sneaking a glance at his watch. The time showed just after 5 p.m., and he knew Jisung was right. He closed his eyes briefly, weighing his options as he sat back up and ran a hand through his hair, the golden strands catching the dim light in soft, sunlit hues. His freckles, a smattering of stardust across his nose and cheeks, stood out against his fair skin. His usual air of self-assurance had melted into a blend of fatigue and unwilling surrender.
"But I don't wanna," Felix whined, letting his voice drop to a whisper that seemed more fitting for a kid forced to do his homework than a seasoned detective. His arms crossed defiantly over his chest. "I'm too lazy."
"Lazy? Felix, you're the one who—" Jisung's voice was cut off by Captain Bang Chan's unmistakable tone, wafting from his office.
"Felix, just go," Chan commanded in his usual firm-but-friendly tone. From the other side of the room, Felix caught sight of his captain giving him a long-suffering, almost fatherly look.
Felix sighed, leaning back in his chair and fixing Chan with his biggest, most pathetic puppy-dog eyes. "But Captain," he groaned, "I hate Busan. Everyone there is so... lazy."
"Lazier than you?" Jisung muttered, earning himself an immediate and pointed "Shut up" from Felix.
Seungmin, who had been quietly observing the exchange from across the office, finally joined the conversation with an eye roll. "Felix, if you go, I'll buy you whatever food you want afterward."
Felix's eyes lit up, momentarily betraying his annoyance, as he turned to Seungmin with a suspicious squint. "The good bibimbap across the street?" He leaned forward, eyes narrowed. "Not the crappy one downstairs?"
Seungmin laughed, already pulling out his wallet to flash a bill in Felix's direction. "The good one," he confirmed, rolling his eyes. "Now just go already."
With a dramatic sigh and a last, reluctant glance around the office, Felix grabbed his bag and stormed toward the door, followed closely by a triumphant Jisung. As he walked out, he couldn't shake the feeling that this little detour might end up being more of a hassle than any bibimbap reward could ever make up for.
