One - Shot : Lab Partners

Edd walked into his science class , slinging his bag off of his shoulder and onto the ground as he sat at his desk . He hadn't had anyone sitting next to him the whole year because there was an odd number of students in the class so he sat alone while everyone else had a partner for labs and experiments . He didn't mind working alone though , he was used to it . People picked on him for having his hair in front of his eyes and being the ' art - kid ' so the only real friend he had was his dorm - mate Tom but sadly he didn't have a lot of classes with him as he was in a higher grade .

As Edd was unpacking his colored pencils on his desk , he looked up to see a kid walk into the class that he didn't recognize . He had light dirty - blonde hair that was styled into a mullet that was spiked in the front and medium brown eyes that had a sort of deep red tint to them . He was wearing a knee length leather jacket over top of his red T - shirt , black ripped jeans , and black sneakers  . Edd watched as the student that was unfamiliar to him walk up to the instructor and pointed him to the seat next to Edd . He froze as the student locked eyes with him dispite not being able to see them before turning back to the instructor to speak with him a bit more . After he had finished talking to the instructor , he made his way over to Edd's desk and sat in the empty seat next to him . He set his bag down and pulled out a notebook , placing it on the desk before looking over to Edd .

" Are there . . . Any notes I need for this class right now ? " He spoke suddenly in a thick Norwegian accent to Edd .

Edd slightly jumped , " Ah uh - No , we're starting a new unit today I believe . . " He replied

" Oh alright . My name is Tord , what's yours ? " He held his hand out to Edd

He paused before shaking his hand and replying , " Edd ! Are you . . . New here ? Or did you just transfer classes ? "

" Oh - ah , I just moved here from Norway , apologies my English isn't very good . . . I'm still learning ! " He scratched the back of his neck with a sweet akward smile .

Edd's heart skipped a beat as Tord flashed his fang - like teeth with his smile . " Oh really ? You're doing great then ! " Edd's cheeks flushed a soft pink as he started to grow warmer .

" Really ? " Tord's eyes seemed to get bigger and shinier at the remark .

Edd felt butterflies , " Ahh - Yep ! " He smiled nervously .

Tord seemed to gain a sort of glow as he grew more confident from Edd's reassurance , " Well thank you ! " He smiled again .

Their conversation was cut short from the class instructor starting the lesson and passing out materials to each desk for their next experiment . As she walked back to her podium , she began telling out the instructions , though Tord wasn't listening . He was too busy marveling at the chemicals in front of him. Gears turned in his head as he visibly got an idea . Edd noticed Tord scheming and  lightly nudged him on the arm .

" What are you plotting ? " He whispered

Tord didn't respond to the question instead following up with one of his own , " Wanna see something cool ? " He whispered back as he smirked .

Edd felt a bit nervous , " Not too sure that I do . . . . "

Tord grabbed two of the chemicals from the tray , pouring them into the large beaker causing a reaction that started to foam up . He placed the empty vials down then raised it above the beaker before looking ag Edd with a cheeky grin .

" Cover your ears . "

Edd did as told before Tord poured the vial into the beaker causing an explosion with a loud boom , filling the room with smoke . The room filled with panic as Tord grabbed Edd's wrist and dragging him out . Edd grabbed his bag as he was being pulled from the room . Tord ran down the hall and out the nearest exit . Edd was panicked , nor knowing what to do but run with him . Eventually they made it off campus and stopped to catch their breath .

Edd looked over at Tord , " Well you certainly know how to make a first impression . What were you thinking ?! " He said through huffs .

" Well , you seem like the type to not care too much for school , eh ? I figured that was an easy way out ! "

" You're crazy " He smiled .

Tord smiled back .

He started to laugh , Edd following suit . In seconds they were in tears , laughing on the ground .

Tord regained his composure before looking over at Edd again , " I think I'm gonna like you , smaragdgutt . "

Edd tilted his head " What was that last bit ? "

" Ahhh don't worry about it . " He smiled .
