"You guys didn't have to come along to help me out, but thanks, anyways," Dipper said with a smile as he sat the books he had collected down on a table. "It means a lot to me."
"Dude, we've always got your back!" Soos exclaimed.
"Yeah, man! I mean, you look exhausted, Dipper," Wendy pointed out. "You probably need us to lend a hand with your research."
"No kidding," Dipper lightly chuckled as he rubbed the bridge of his nose and sat down at the table.
Mabel then sat next to him, asking, "So, what's the plan, bro-bro?"
"Okay, so, I've already found a few books, but we're mainly looking for anything about mythological, paranormal, and supernatural creatures," Dipper began to explain. "There has to be another thing in one of these books that can manipulate dreams other than a dream demon... That could explain the nightmares I could be having."
"We're on it, dude," Soos said. "We'll stop whatever's keeping you up at night in no time!"
Dipper gave Wendy and Soos an appreciative smile as they left to search for more books. He pushed one of the books he had on the table towards Mabel as he opened another book for himself. Dipper immediately began to flip through the pages, carefully skimming through each paragraph.
Dipper was disappointed to not find any creatures that were able to mess with dreams in the book he had read... Or the next one. He looked up to Mabel who had finished reading the one he had given her, but sighed as she shook her head.
As Dipper and Mabel continued to search through books, Wendy and Soos would occasionally stop by and put down a few books they had found for them.
About half an hour later, Soos and Wendy came back to announce they couldn't find any more books, and sat down at the table with them. They began to open books with the twins and look through them.
"Anything?" Dipper muttered as he closed another book and put on the stack of books he had nicknamed 'The Useless Pile'.
"Ugh, no," Mabel sighed as Soos and Wendy shook their heads. "I'm sorry, Dipper."
"Mabel, it's not your fault. It's okay," Dipper told her with a smile. "I'm going to go put up the books we already read, alright?"
Mabel nodded and then grabbed another book as Dipper gathered up all the ones they had already read. He picked up the stack of books and began to walk around the library, returning the books to their rightful places.
Dipper stood up from kneeling down to place a book on the bottom shelf of a bookcase. He picked up his stack of books again as he stood up. He turned around and took a step forward, but ran into someone, dropping all his books.
"Oh, shit!" Dipper hissed under his breath and bent down to gather them up, but found the person who he had bumped into was already picking them up.
Dipper stared in surprise as they both stood back up at the same time, the guy handing the books to him. Dipper examined the guy as he carefully took the books from him.
The guy looked around Dipper's own age, maybe a year older, but he was taller than Dipper. He had pale skin with freckles sprinkled across his cheeks. He had golden blonde hair, but he could see black hair on the sides of his head. The blonde was wearing a black t-shirt with a yellow hoodie and light grey jeans.
Though, the thing that surprised Dipper the most about the guy's appearance was his stunning blue eye and the black eye patch covering his right eye.
"I'm so sorry, kid," the man apologized, Dipper taking it a bit offensively that he was called a kid. "I don't have very good depth perception."
Something about the guy seemed familiar, but Dipper couldn't put his finger on it... And he didn't want to be rude to the guy. He seemed pretty nice.
"Oh, no, man, it's fine! I should've watched where I was going," Dipper replied with a polite smile. "I haven't been paying attention too much lately. I should be getting more sleep."
The blonde warmly smiled back, and let out a light laugh, before asking, "This town's pretty small, but I've never seen you here before. You new to Gravity Falls, kid?"
"Oh, I've been here before, but that was like five years ago," Dipper chuckled. "I'm staying with some family for the year."
"Gravity Falls wouldn't be my first vacation choice, but I could see why someone would take interest in it," he replied. "The name's Caesar, by the way."
"I'm Dipper. Dipper Pines," the brunette replied, reaching out one of his hands to shake Caesar's. "It's nice to meet you Caesar."
"Pleasure to meet you too, Dipper," Caesar said as he shook Dipper's hands. "Hey, I couldn't help but notice you got a lot of books on monsters there. I'm guessing you're into the paranormal and things like that?"
Dipper looked down at his books for a moment, his face flushing a bit as he replied, "Uh, yeah. I guess it kind of runs in my family..."
"Ah, so you and your family have noticed the weird stuff that goes on here, too?" Caesar asked, seeming curious.
"Wait, you've noticed the monsters and stuff too?" Dipper exclaimed, his eyes widening in surprise as Caesar nodded. "Wow! Most people think I'm insane for believing in monsters here!"
"The proof's right in front of them," Caesar snickered and shrugged a bit, making Dipper laugh.
"I better get back to my sister and friends now before they think I passed out while putting these books back," Dipper then said. "Maybe we'll see each other again?"
"I sure hope so," Caesar chirped, making the light blush on Dipper's face deepen in color.
Caesar gave him a friendly smile before turning away to leave Dipper.
Dipper barely had a minute to himself before Mabel came out of nowhere and squealed next to him, "Who was that?!"
Dipper yelped, but quickly calmed down to reply, "Uh, just some guy named Caesar. He seemed pretty nice."
"And really cute!" Mabel exclaimed, making Dipper laugh and blush again.
"Yeah, I guess he was kinda cute...," he shyly admitted.
"Woah, wait! Dipper, did you just talk to the blonde guy with the eye patch?"
The twins looked over when they heard Wendy speaking up to see both her and Soos had rushed over to them.
"Uh, yes?" Dipper hesitatingly replied, a bit confused.
"Dude, that guy showed up a couple of years ago and hasn't talked to anyone!" Soos explained. "From what we know, you're the first guy to talk to him!"
Dipper's eyes widened, "Wait, seriously? But he seemed like such a friendly guy..."
"We've tried talking to him before, but he just acted like he didn't hear us or he just runs away," Wendy added. "What's his name? Did you find out what's up with his eye?!"
"Caesar," Dipper answered. "And, no, I didn't even ask. He did tell me that he believed in the paranormal, though."
"Maybe he's doing a secret research project like Grunkle Ford did when he first moved to Gravity Falls!" Mabel suggested, seeming excited at the idea. "What else did he tell you?"
"Nothing, really... He said he'd like to run into me again, though," Dipper explained.
Mabel's eyes widened and she cooed, "Ooo, maybe he likes you!"
Soos and Wendy laughed as Dipper pulled down his hat to hide his face as he muttered, "Mabel, no, I just met him! I don't even belive in love at first sight!"
Mabel just joined into Soos and Wendy's laughter.
While Dipper never found anything on another creature that could mess with dreams or a spell that could prevent his nightmares, to his surprise, Dipper didn't have a nightmare that night.
(A/N: Had a chance to post this really quickly, so here it is!
And about that last paragraph, it'll be explain later on. Trust me.)
