The day rushes by smoothly after that. Lili gets back from her break in time to help me deal with the bulk of the midday customers. And the asshole at table ten stays quiet for the most part.
By the time the sun has set and its time to start counting everything up, I realize how shitty the tips actually were. Nothing more than fifty or sixty dollars, I would say.
Lili and I start counting and it totals at seventy-eight, better than what we were expecting. And when the clock strikes seven, I go over to my last table. He's finished his second pot of coffee, and a couple waters too... like that makes it any better.
"Okay, last chance. I'm clocking out in just a little bit."
He glances up through his lashes at me, turning his phone off and setting it aside. I watch curiously while he pulls out his wallet. A second later a hundred dollar bill is set on the table.
"Oh, um... We don't have enough money to break that right now. Do you have a card?"
He stands up then, and at his full height, he's over a head taller than me. "Nope. And I don't have any smaller bills either. Just keep it."
"I- no. I can't take this. This is over ten times what you owe."
He steps closer to me, putting us toe to toe and forcing me to look up at him. His gaze bores down on me, his black eyes glinting blue in the lighting. When he's had enough of staring at me, he does the unexpectable. His hand reaches up to my face, tucking a stray lock of hair behind my ear. "Keep it, Ghost. I see what you're doing. Whoever this is going to needs it more than me." He pauses before uttering his final words. "Goodnight, Ghost."
He walks off then, leaving me stunned beyond words. What. The. Hell.
I grab up the bill, not caring much about the diner's profits in the moment. Lili looks to me while I approach, her eyes flicking down to my hand and then going wide
"Here, this is from my last table."
She gapes at me while taking the bill. "Christ, Ghost. What did you do? Flash him? How the hell did you get a tip like this?" She asks, all the while shoving the note into Kris's envelope.
"No. I don't even know. He must like me though, for whatever reason."
She side eyes me. "Yeah, sure. Whatever, just keep it up, this'll be great for Kris."
I nod in agreeance the same time the night crew walks in. Lili and I grab our things, clock out, and I pull one of the workers aside to remind them that they need to actually clean the place before they leave. The boy, no older than seventeen, looks at me wearily while noding.
By the time I get to my car, its later than I would have liked. Still, I check the entirety of my vehicle thoroughly before getting in and driving off.
Back home the gates are opened for me by the men again, the only difference being that there are two at each gate instead of only one. I pull into the driveway and see that there's another car accompanying Saint's likely Rook and Omen.
With a sigh, I get out, not wanting, but nonetheless prepared for, the family reunion waiting inside.
I haven't seen neither Rook nor Omen in the two years I've been living here, the two of them helping Saint run his business rather than catching up with me... Not they ever really talked to me in the first place.
I shut the door and fix my ears to the sound of talking in my living room. Three masculine voices sound, each of them familiar in their own right.
I set my things down and slip out of my shoes, then I walk quietly to the living room. Perhaps I can sneak past them to my room?
