Daeun held her breath as she walked through the towering building. Her eyes trailed the floor as thoughts of self doubt clouded her frantic mind.

I'm not good enough
This is so stupid
They're gonna hate me

Swirls of uncertainty engulfed her mind as she neared her destination.

Knocking on the door Daeun exhaled breathlessly, her heart rate quickened . The door loomed over her, watching her, mocking her with its impossibly impressive stature. Its glossy surface reflecting a ghostly version of herself. Seeing her anxious reflection only made the knot in her stomach twist tighter.

I'm fucking dead

✄┈┈┈┈

I wish I was dead

Daeun walked out of the interview unsure of how it went, leaving her mind churning. Every stutter, every mistake, every slip up played in a loop in her head. Had she blown it? Definitely. She was sure of it, she'd let all her friends down. They'd be so disappointed.

Head hung low, Daeun walked to a nearby lift, her energy completely drained, eyes clouded with a dull, disheartened resignation. Her mind still buzzing with uncertainty. The weight of her disappointment pressed down against her heart, boring further and further into her chest. Every inch of her felt heavy and burdensome, as though the life had been ripped right from underneath her. She was an anchor sinking further into the abyss under the relentless force of gravity.

Slowly the doors of the lift slid open with a soft chime, the sound barely registered. Daeun stepped inside, pressing the ground floor button. Her reflection in the polished steel looking as defeated as she felt. Her hair draped in a messy disarray covering her face slightly. Eyes on the floor she let out a sigh of discontent, the kind that's seemed to carry the full burden of her frustrations.

Leaning into the cold metal she closed her eyes as the elevator descend floor by floor. She listened to the soft ding of the lift as each floor passed by.

Ding

As the elevator reached the eighth floor the doors slid open and a figure walked in. She barely notice, too occupied with her own thoughts.  A rustle of movement and a quiet voice:

"Sorry"

The man's hand slightly brushed the side of her arm. The sound of his voice finally caused her to look up, eyes widening as she realised she wasn't alone.

"Ah, sorry sorry." She quickly shuffled away from the figure, feeling awkward at their proximity. The man offered a small nod, which she returned as he settled into the other side of the relatively small elevator.

As the two stood in silence, broken only by the rhythmic ding of the lift. Curious, Daeun took a brief glance towards the boy stood next to her. He was relatively tall, taller than her. His hair, brown, slightly damp with sweat. Despite this, he was.. well, attractive.

Wow

Daeun couldn't help looking, he looked vaguely familiar yet no name connected to the figure who was stood in front of her. Her stare lingered a second longer than she intended. The man's eyes flickered in her direction catching her in the act, causing her to quickly snap her eyes down to the floor, heat creeping up her neck to her face as she felt the boys eyes on her. She shifted uncomfortably.

He drummed his fingers lightly on the handle on the lift. Strangely enough, she found the steady beat quite calming, a distraction from her overwhelming conscious. The lift continued to descend, the soft ding playing now more actively in her mind.

Creak

The lift made sharp groan, the two ignored it.

Creak

The noise came again, louder. The two ignored.

CREAK

The lift made a noise again, even louder this time. She glanced towards the man, who met her eyes briefly.

"It's probably nothing-" the boy started.

Suddenly the elevator jolted. The two's eyes snapped to each others.

His eyes are pretty
Not the time!

Again the elevator jolted, harder this time.

CREAK

Then... silence. Everything still. Neither moved, neither breathed. Silence. The illuminated sign flickered weakly flashing off and on before sputtering out completely. Then nothing. The noises had stopped, the only sounds remaining were the unstable breath of both Daeun and the man.

Daeun's eyes darted to the floor indicator.

6

Her original anxiety replaced with a newfound, more intense, panic. Her heart pounded in her ears, her chest tightening with fear.

And then-
They dropped.
