Chapter 6: The Dark Revelation
Sabrina felt the blood drain from her face as she absorbed the gravity of the documents Justine had found. The file detailed a plan that went far beyond the simple territorial disputes and family rivalries they had expected. This was a calculated strike against the Monteverde family, a plan to dismantle them from the inside out.
“Do you see this?” Justine asked, his voice barely above a whisper as he pointed to a chart outlining key targets. “They’re planning to eliminate key members of the Monteverde hierarchy in a series of attacks. They want to provoke a response, to drag both families into an all-out war.”
Sabrina’s heart raced as she processed the implications. “If this goes through, it’ll lead to bloodshed on both sides. Innocent people will get hurt, Justine. Families—children—everyone will suffer.”
Justine nodded grimly, his expression hardening. “We have to stop this. We have to find a way to expose them before it’s too late.”
As he began to sift through more papers, Sabrina’s mind whirled with the enormity of their discovery.
She thought of Lawrence and the hold he had over their family, how he always seemed to have a finger on the pulse of their father’s ambitions. If he knew about this… but would he care? Would he prioritize the family legacy over the lives of innocent people?
“We need to get this back to my place,” Justine said, shoving the file into a backpack he had brought with him. “We can analyze everything and figure out our next move.”
Before Sabrina could respond, a sudden noise echoed from the hallway—a soft creak followed by hurried footsteps. Panic surged through her veins.
“We have to go, now!” she urged, her heart racing as she grabbed Justine’s arm.
They quickly made their way to the door, but before they could open it, it swung wide, revealing a shadowy figure standing in the doorway. Sabrina’s heart stopped as she recognized him instantly.
“Lawrence,” she breathed, a mix of shock and dread washing over her.
Her brother stood tall, his expression a blend of disbelief and anger. “What the hell are you two doing here?” he demanded, his voice low and tense.
Sabrina’s mind raced. They were caught, and any chance of getting out of this unscathed was slipping away. Justine stepped forward, attempting to shield her from Lawrence’s piercing gaze.
“We were just—”
“You were just breaking into our father’s office, weren’t you?” Lawrence interrupted, his voice rising in anger. “I can’t believe you would stoop so low, Sabrina.”
“We weren’t trying to steal anything,” Sabrina protested, feeling her heart hammering in her chest.
“We were trying to find out what Dad and your father are planning. They’re plotting something terrible, Lawrence. You have to listen to us!”
Lawrence’s face hardened, skepticism etching deep lines across his forehead. “And I’m supposed to just take your word for it? You’ve been running around with Justine Monteverde, the enemy. How can I trust anything you say?”
Justine moved closer to Sabrina, his eyes fixed on Lawrence, and spoke with a confidence that surprised her. “We found documents that prove they’re planning an attack on your family. If we don’t act fast, this will lead to war—bloodshed that neither of our families can afford.
Lawrence’s expression shifted slightly, a flicker of doubt appearing in his eyes, but he quickly masked it with anger. “You expect me to believe that? What proof do you have?”
