I slowly started to awaken, keeping my eyes closed as I took in my surroundings. Warmth enclosed me and I registered the weight of a blanket covering me. Knowing immediately where I was, I was reluctant to open my eyes. I could easily sleep for a few more hours; I was starting to think that Anton wouldn't really mind. He had seemed hesitant before I fell asleep, watching me ascend the stairs in case I decided to take a tumble.
He had offered to answer my questions, but that didn't mean he was excited about it.
With a groan I rolled over, pressing my face into the mattress and stretching my arms out towards the headboard. Despite my rocky appointment with the therapist earlier, I was feeling much better after my nap. It was almost surreal; I felt light and weightless.
It was beyond odd.
I finally managed to crawl out of bed, swaying lightly on my feet as my numb right leg started to protest. It tingled as I took a few steps, managing to make it to the closed door. I had fallen asleep in my day cloths, so I didn't worry about changing as I headed out the door, finally getting full use of my right leg.
Making my way down the hallway and towards the stairs, I found myself subconsciously humming. I didn't even know if what I was humming was an actual song, but it sounded pretty decent. The mood I was in was a bit strange, but I just chalked it up to finally getting some answers. I knew Anton would hold to his word and explain everything to me.
The stairs no longer held any threat to me. I was quick to bounce down, not even worried about the exposure of my bare feet.
"Anton?" I called out, rounding the stairs into the living room. I heard a muffled reply from outside, saw a shadow sway behind the closed curtains of the front window. Quickly making my way outside, I wondered what he was doing.
"Hey, why are you-" my words jammed in my throat as I unexpectedly made contact with piercing eyes.
Eyes that were not Anton's.
They were pale blue, and as I watched, they melted into a dark red, showing the rage Christian felt inside despite the leisure smile that remained stretched across his face.
"Emily, my dear. This is indeed a surprise. I didn't think he would leave you behind." I stated up at him, the terror working inside me making it impossible for me to reply; I couldn't even move.
Leave... Me... Behind?
"You seem confused, sweetheart." I stepped back as he stepped forwards, arm reached out for me. A snarl flashed across his handsome face, his usual response to my retreat. He covered it quickly though, slipping back into the charming vampire.
"What are you... How-"
"Mm," he hummed, interrupting me. "Speaking again?" His question was followed by a finger that trailed lightly down my face. I tried to take another step back but found that he had backed me up against the side of the house without me realize it.
My body felt cold, frozen all the way to my core. I was internally screaming for Anton, my mind in a scramble. How had Christian gotten past patrols? How could he get so close to the house? He was literally right outside!
"It's beautiful hearing your voice again my dear. I have missed your screams," his smile widened, showing off his brilliantly white fangs as they rested comfortably.
"What did you do to Anton?" I demanded harshly, my mind spinning around the ideas of him being kidnapped and tortured. Not surprisingly, he threw his head back, laughing lightly.
"Why, I didn't have to do anything to him. You see, he left on his own." My lungs seemed to squeeze at his words, forcing out any oxygen I had managed to choke back. "That's right. You're... Lovely Prince Charming took his whole pack and ran," he sang, clapping his hands together and smiling down at me. He had pressed closer still and we were almost to the point where our chests were touching. I needed to get away.
