After some convincing, Dad allowed me to go on our quest. Like he really had a choice. Basically, whatever the Elders say is the law. So even if we didn't want to go, they would drag us out of the village kicking and screaming. And they wouldn't let us back in until we've done what they've asked of us.

I woke up early so I was the first person at the spot we chose to meet up at. I decided to wear a long, green hooded cloak over a brown leather belt and a green shirt. The sleeves were cinched at the wrists with brown straps. I also wore my favorite brown pants and brown leather boots.

Next came Quince, wearing a large, decorative purple witch's hat with flowers, feathers, and beads on it. I could tell she made it herself. She was also wearing a long purple dress made of lace and floral designs that perfectly matched her hat.

"I like your outfit, Quince. It's very pretty." I smiled.

"Thanks. So is yours." She smiled back.

Then Eva and Thesipha came. Yelling at each other about how Rose Quartz isn't as pretty as Baby Pink.

"You don't get it, though! Rose Quartz has a bit of gold in it, making it less pink!"

"It's still pretty! Baby pink is too boring. There are a million pinks like it."

Eva's wearing a blue and silver dress with a high collar and a short skirt. The dress's edges have black and silver swirl trim. It also has a v-neckline. There was also a matching hood. The whole outfit had a medieval theme and looked made of satin or silk.

But Thesipha did not dress appropriately at all. She wore a very white dress that was decorated with golden lines and swirls. There were also embroidered green pine designs.

I tried not to make a face but failed anyways.

"What're you looking at?" She glared.

"Just your outfit."

"Why? Wish you could own something as expensive as this?"

"Her house is literally worth more than your life," Eva adds. I nod, agreeing with her.

"Yeah, whatever." Thesipha scoffs.

"Are you guys ready?" A voice says.

I turn around and see Thalsis dressed in black, gray, and white armor. The stomach area was covered with silver scales, probably to prevent stab wounds. Black leather covered his chest and arms. Gray and black fingerless gloves covered his hands.

"Oh, Thesipha, what are you wearing?" he asks.

"Doesn't matter. Can we go now?" Thesipha said, her face heating up from embarrassment.

"In just a second. Before we go, we need to get something."

"Why didn't you get it before you got here?" I asked, annoyed that we couldn't leave yet.

"Because I would've gotten in trouble, Aivus."

"Are we doing something illegal?" Quince asked, nervously.

"No. I mean- Just come on." Thalsis said, waving us over.

We followed reluctantly as we went up a path and behind a house.

"Uh, isn't this trespassing?" Thesipha questioned.

"No. This is my house." Thalsis stated.

Behind Thalsis's house was a normal-sized blue lake.

"Are you getting water or something? What's illegal about that?" I asked.

"Just shut up and wait here."

"Rude much," I mumbled as Thalsis went down the path toward the lake.

"Wells! Wells!~ Where are you?" He yelled.

"Who's Wells?" Quince asked us as if we were supposed to know.

Eva's pupils turned to slits as a boy our age came into view. I'd never seen him before, and according to everyone's faces, they hadn't either. The boy, Wells, I'm assuming, had tan skin and blue and black hair. His eyes were a dark blue but had swirls of gold in them. But the way Eva's eyes changed concerned me.

"Eva, you ok?" I ask.

Her eyes turned back to normal as she replied, "Yeah, I'm... I'm fine."

Before I can say anything else, Thalsis and the other boy meet us back up at the start of the path.

"Ladies, this is Wells. He's going to be joining us on our mission."

"Says who? Definitely not the Elders if you had to sneak him out like this." Eva said, trying not to look at the new boy in front of her.

"I said so. So we're bringing him."

"Who died and made you king?" I ask.

"Your mom." He glared

"Correction, your mom." I glared back.

"Why don't we vote? Who wants Kai to lead us?" Thesipha asked.

No one raised their hand except Wells.

"You don't get a say yet, Wells." I bite, making him lower his hand slowly.

"Who wants Marigold to lead us?" Everyone except Thesipha and Thalsis.

"Hmm. I guess it's decided. You can bring your friend, Thalsis. But you'll remember that it's only because I said so." I smirk.

"Yeah, yeah, whatever. Let's go." Thalsis rolls his eyes.

And for the first time, we left the only place we've ever called home.
