TW: Suicidal thoughts or motives
How many could say they were living the worst of life, no house, no warmth, not enough food, and most importantly, nobody to care for you? Piper could easily answer that question. He had basically all the above mentioned. It sucked, especially since he was known all over the village for being homeless and poor. Every single damn day, others would mock him, especially children, throw stuff at him, it was the worst. Every night, as he tried his best to get warm with the ragged blanket in the alleyway, he kept looking up at the sky, asking, "Why do you hate me, God? Please...just please..let there be some..glimmer of a miracle for me...I'm begging you." It was useless, but he did it every night anyway, as it was the one thing that was giving him slight hope, in case something good would happen. But who was he kidding? Nobody was gonna unexpectedly show him any compassion in this damn village. He was just an outsider, an outcast.
One cool morning, as Piper was sneaking around the town square, inspecting every inch and corner for some food, even some crumbs, he noticed some bread sitting at a lone table. He looked around, seeing nobody was there. He knew this was all too good to be true, but his rumbling stomach forced him to creep closer to it, reaching his hand out towards it. But of course, because the universe simply hated him, someone's hand immediately slammed down onto his, stopping him from touching the bread. Piper looked up, now seeing one of the residents glaring down at him. "What the hell do you think you're doing?! Get your dirty hands off my food, vermin!", she shouted at him, pushing him away. Piper landed on the ground with a rough thud, letting out a slight groan. "Get out of here, you shitrat! Nobody wants you around here!", she continued to yell, other villagers started to come over and watch. With a grunt, Piper got up, not wanting to deal with this today. "Fine..but the only thing you're proving here is that you're a bitch...", he retorted, getting out of there before the lady lost her mind at that comment. Grumbling as he went back to his usual spot, Piper shook his head. 'Everyone here's a bitch..', he thought coldly. Sure, he could just leave, but because of how weak he sorta felt, outside the village probably wouldn't be much better.
About a week or so later, Piper couldn't really tell, he often doesn't pay mind to the days, his eyes slowly opened as he could hear two guys talking, something about a dragon. "We already sent many knights over there, and so far, none of them came back! What makes you think this will be any different?" "Hey, look. Do you want that miserable shitrat to finally be out of this place?" Piper narrowed his eyes, as the voices seemed to be getting closer. Shaking his head, he draped the blanket over him. "Well...yes. But what if he does come back?" "He won't. As far as we know, she could surely kill him in one swipe." He soon could hear footsteps getting louder, until they stopped, and he knew whoever was talking was right in front of him. He felt something being thrown at him, and he removed the blanket from his face, now seeing a wooden sword in his lap. Looking up, he saw two dogs standing, staring down at him. "Hey shitrat, guess what you're doing today?", one of them asked. Piper rolled his eyes. "Yeah..I could clearly hear you talking. You're sending me somewhere, right?", he asked nonchalantly, picking up the small sword.
One of the dogs smirked. "Duh. Besides, nobody wants you around here, so why don't we just send you off?" "I'm very well aware that I'm not well-liked, no need to remind me...", Piper muttered coldly. "Whatever, anyway, we're sending you, to go and attempt to kill that dragoness living in the mountains." Piper looked up at the two, then back at the sword. "How the hell am I supposed to kill a dragoness, probably one hundred times my size?" The dog simply snickered, shrugging. "You figure it out. Now get out of here, I don't wanna have to look at your shitty appearance any further." "Do I even have a choice?", Piper questioned, even though he knew the answer.
He really didn't want to do this in the first place anyway. No way in hell would he be able to defeat a dragon. Without saying a word, the two dogs grabbed him by the arms, causing him to cry and protest, dragging him towards the entrance of the village, and throwing him out, Piper landing roughly on the gravel path. He then heard the sound of the door closing, and as he snapped his head around, it was already closed. "Fucking great..", he muttered, picking up the sword and getting to his feet.
