the tale of legacy dayapple's been worried sick about legacy day despite my reassurance. she's gotten better, but i can tell that worry is still lingering.
so, as the amazing sister i was, i decided to stop by her dorm.
i tap my knuckles lightly against the door. "apple?"
silence. i knock again.
no answer.
"she's not in there," a voice says. i look over my shoulder, and it's him.
roman leans against his doorframe, arms crossed, which happens to be across the hall.
"and how do you know that?" i ask lightly, turning my body fully.
"because i saw her leave a while ago." he says. "said something about needing to get ready for tonight."
that made sense. apple's set on looking her absolute fairest.
i hum, looking towards the door again.
we both stood there in silence for a moment. roman lifts himself off the wall. "shouldn't you be getting ready?"
i turn back to him. "shouldn't you?"
he shrugs. "yeah. but to be frank, i don't care."
i could tell from the way you were at rehearsals.
"what about you?" he asks, leaning in. "isn't this the most important day of your life, princess?"
"the most important day of my sister's life," i correct. "not mine."
roman leans back against the wall, humming. clearly, in thought.
"what?" i ask.
"you're different than i thought you'd be."
and in an instant, i don't know what to say. but.. i can't help but think of his words as a compliment.
"you too," i whisper, meaning to say the words to myself. but, he heard them anyway. he smirks. "let me guess," he begins. "you thought i'd be evil? worse than my sister?"
"no." i say. and for a moment, he looks a little confused. "your sister is a good friend of mine. and she isn't evil. and besides, i can't judge you before i've even met you. so, no. i didn't think you'd be evil."
his pearl colored eyes sparkle with something before his smirk turns into more of a smile. "you're something, princess."
a gentle smile curves my lips. "i'll take that as a compliment,"
"y/n!"
i know apple's voice anywhere. i turn my head to see my sister racing down the hallway. when she stops in front of me, she take my hand. "where've you been, you need to get ready!"
i was about to say the same thing, but she was mostly ready.
she begins to pull me away. i look back at roman, who was still leaning against his doorframe with a slight smile. he gives me a small salute as we walk (more like run) away from him.
i don't even have time to wave back before apple turns the corner and leads me to the dress parlor so i can get dressed.
"..did we have to run?" i ask my sister once we arrive.
"yes!" she says, stepping onto the platform to finish dressing. a few fairies finish adding fabrics and accessories while i change into my base dress.
i step onto the platform and let the fairies do their magic.
after they've finished, i'm in a white and gold corseted dress embellished with designs depicting our fairy tale. the skirt was white, training down and fading into a deep, sparkling red. my shoes were the same red, with gold detailing.
a layered gold and ruby necklace rested against my neck, along with matching earrings, and a bracelet. apple gently switches my tiara for a more elaborate one; a golden circlet decorated with pearls and rubies shaped like apples.
the fairies place a gold bow onto my side, and then, i'm ready.
apple helps me step down. she smiles. "you look like the fairest of them all," she smiles. i reciprocate the gesture. "says the future queen of ever after."
my sister chuckles, "you know i mean it, n/n," she takes my hand. "you look beautiful."
"thank you," i say softly. "so do you."
my sister and i thank the fairies for their help before it's finally time for the ceremony.

time skipas students and spectators fill the rows of seats, i can't help but feel heavy hearted. apple is the one fulfilling our fairy tale destiny, so.. what'll happen to me? will i simply carry on how i am now? will i get a true happily ever after?
i can't help but feel like i'm being thrown to the sidelines while my sister gets everything.
i shake the thoughts from my head. no. i tell myself.
people are having worse problems, and i should be happy for apple. she's getting what she's always wanted.
"y/n," apple calls out gently to me. i look up, and see her inching closer to me. "yeah?"
apple smiles, "i want you to stand at the podium with me."
my eyes go slightly wide. "what?" i look toward the crowd. "apple, i can't do that!"
"yes, you can." she chuckles. "this is both of our story. we should do this together."
she give me a gentle, pleading look. she really wanted me to do this.
and i couldn't say no.
then, in the blink of an eye it seems, we were at the podium. i stood to the side as my sister made her pledge, looking every bit like the future queen.
then it was raven's turn.
and she didn't sign the storybook.
the royals go into a frenzy, in shock at raven's blatant display of defiance. i'm shocked, but can't help but smile softly for her.
she was going to write her own destiny.
and i knew that somehow, i would too.
