It was late. Much too late for Polly to be working at the office. You hated her not being there with you this late at night. What could she be doing that was taking much too long?

This was running through your head as you sat at your vanity, working on light makeup. You dabbed powder on your face and put charcoal on your waterline, seething when some got into your eye. You grabbed your lipstick and painted it onto your lips, and sighed heavily as you stood up.

It didn't take much longer for you to head downstairs, passing Mary in your travels. "Hey, please make sure all the doors are locked. I'm going to check on Pol." The woman nodded and you simply smiled at her, opening the door and heading out.

The chill of the air sent an uncomfortable chill down your spine as you rushed into the car, muttering curses under your breath. Did you really want to do this? Could you wait for her? No, not really. You couldn't relax or go to sleep if she wasn't there this late. And with that, you started the car, and began driving through the empty roads.

The offices were quiet, you could probably hear a pin drop. You passed the doors with the gold plates of names on them, your footsteps light and delicate as you walked across the hall. Your eyes connected to Polly's name on the door, a warm light peeking through the translucent glass of her door.

Taking the knob, you opened the door quietly, immediately making eye contact with Polly as she glanced up from her work. "Hey." Your voice was a mere whisper.

"Why are you out so late?" Polly questioned, clearly tired.

You sighed, "I couldn't rest without you," Polly hummed, causing you to roll your eyes, "How much work do you have left?"

"A hefty amount, I'd say." Polly set her cheek on her hand, "You didn't have to come all the way here. Especially this late."

Your fingers played with themselves as you awkwardly stood there, looking around the room. "I really want you to come home. Please."

Polly gazed up at you now, and it was her turn to sigh. "We all want things, don't we?"

"Polly," you whined, almost like a child, which you hated. "Please. Don't be stubborn." You finally stepped away from the doorway and sat in the chair on the opposite side of her desk. "Please, Polly."
