Lorenzo's perspective~

As the sun began to set, casting a warm golden hue over the neighborhood, I sat on my bed, staring at the ceiling with a mix of excitement and anxiety churning in my stomach. I had been wrestling with my feelings for Nova for what felt like an eternity, and now, with graduation around the corner, I could no longer ignore the truth: I had a crush on her.

My mind raced back to all the moments we had shared—the laughter, the late-night conversations, the way her eyes sparkled when she talked about her dreams. But Sam was always there, a shadow lurking in the background, reminding me of the complicated history they shared. Why did he have to come back? Why couldn't he just let Nova be happy without him?

But today was different. Today, something inside me shifted. I had fought for Nova in that parking lot, and in that moment, I realized I didn't just want to protect her—I wanted to be with her. My heart raced at the thought of taking a leap of faith, of stepping past the boundaries that had held me back for so long.

I picked up my phone and opened a blank message to Nova. I hesitated, the cursor blinking at me as doubt crept in. But then I recalled the way she smiled when we talked, the way her laughter filled the air around us. I took a deep breath and began typing.

Hey, Nova! Do you want to hang out this weekend? Just the two of us?

I hit send before I could change my mind, heart pounding as I waited for her reply. Moments later, my phone buzzed with a notification.

Sure! That sounds great! What do you have in mind?

My heart soared. I could barely contain my excitement as ideas flooded my mind. "Okay, you've got this," I whispered to myself. I wanted it to be special—a day she'd remember.

The next day, I picked her up early, the sun shining bright as we headed to the local park. I had packed a picnic basket filled with her favorite snacks, and the thought of sharing this moment with her filled me with a warmth I couldn't quite describe.

When we arrived, the park was alive with laughter and the scent of blooming flowers. I spread out the blanket under a large oak tree, its branches swaying gently in the breeze. Nova's eyes lit up when she saw the spread of food.

"This looks amazing, Lorenzo!" she exclaimed, taking a seat on the blanket. "You really outdid yourself."

I grinned, feeling a rush of happiness at her approval. "Only the best for you," I replied, my heart racing. We settled into easy conversation, sharing stories and enjoying the food. As we laughed together, I found myself lost in her joy, feeling a sense of comfort and connection that I had longed for.

After we finished eating, we lay back on the blanket, gazing up at the clouds drifting lazily overhead. The moment felt perfect—peaceful and intimate. I took a deep breath, my heart pounding as I turned to face her.

"Nova," I said, my voice slightly trembling. "There's something I need to tell you."

She turned her head to look at me, curiosity in her eyes. "What is it?"

I swallowed hard, fighting back the nerves. "I've had a crush on you for a long time. Like, a really long time. And I know that things have been complicated with Sam, but I want to be honest with you about how I feel."

Nova's eyes widened slightly, and for a moment, it felt as if the world had paused. "Lorenzo... I—"

Before she could finish, I rushed to continue. "I know this might be unexpected, but I can't keep pretending I don't feel this way. I want to be with you, if you'll have me."

A soft blush crept onto her cheeks, and I held my breath, waiting for her response. I could see a flicker of surprise, then something warmer—something that made my heart race with hope.

"But what about the initials?" she asked, staring at me, her voice wavering slightly. "I promised myself I would find my soulmate."

I sighed, feeling the weight of the moment. With a deep breath, I lifted my shirt to reveal the initials on my stomach. Her eyes widened in shock, and for a moment, she was speechless.

"But... why didn't you tell me?" she stammered, struggling to find her words. "Why aren't they pink?"

"They won't turn pink unless you kiss me," I joked, trying to lighten the mood. But before I could brace myself, Nova suddenly leaned in and kissed me, catching me completely off guard.

As our lips met, I felt a rush of energy between us, and then I noticed something extraordinary. Her eyes went wide with surprise, and I glanced down just in time to see our initials glow a vibrant pink.

"Oh my god!" Nova exclaimed, her voice a mix of disbelief and excitement. "It's really happening!"

I couldn't help but smile at her reaction, the warmth of the moment enveloping us. It felt like everything around us faded away, and in that instant, we both understood what it meant to be connected in a way we had only dreamed of.

"I've felt something for you too," she finally admitted, her voice soft but steady. "I just never thought you'd feel the same way. I was worried about everything that happened with Sam."

"I get it," I said, relief flooding through me. "But I want to be there for you. I want to make you happy."

Her smile was radiant, lighting up her entire face. "You already do," she replied, her voice barely above a whisper.

I couldn't help but grin back, my heart swelling with joy. "So, what do you say? Will you go out with me? Like, officially?"

"Yes! I'd love that," she said, her eyes sparkling with excitement.

We both laughed, the tension breaking into a wave of happiness. In that moment, I knew I had made the right choice. As we lay there under the vast sky, everything felt right.

The rest of the afternoon passed in a blissful haze of laughter and gentle teasing, our connection deepening with every shared glance and smile. I couldn't remember ever feeling so alive, so hopeful.

As the sun began to dip below the horizon, painting the sky in hues of orange and pink, we packed up our picnic. Hand in hand, we walked back to the car, hearts light with the promise of new beginnings. And in the back of my mind, I knew I wouldn't let anything—or anyone—come between us again. The world felt bright and full of possibilities, and for the first time in a long time, I was excited about the future, knowing that Nova and I were just getting started.
