It was an another breathing day, and Emery hated it.

She hates every waking day that she's alive. Why in the angel was she even revived?

She doesn't want to be a shadowhunter.

She despises their nature, really.

For someone blessed by the angel Raziel, she's not that happy about it.

Not at all.

Why would she? When all her life since she was born, all she hears is that— she'll be the next Clarissa Fairchild; or maybe worse, she might be the next Valentine Morgenstern. Or maybe the worst of it all— Jonathan Morgenstern, or is it Jonathan Fairchild? Or was it Sebastian Verlac? Who knows, really.

Being part of the noble house of Black— it's a curse, really.

Their family has always been part of the purest bloods of shadowhunters.

It was actually rumored that their ancestors might've been angels, though it sounds pretty codswallop, really, but that's pretty much the reason why their family is practically famous in the shadow world.

It doesn't help that their family sort of appears out of thin air, really, well at least, that's how it is for Emery.

She doesn't really know their complete history.

All she knows is that, their family was very different from the other shadowhunters.

It's as if they existed elsewhere, before their angel blood was even activated.

She was curious at once of course, at least when she was at the young age of twelve. She tried to delve deep about their ancestry, and mysteriously enough, there was just too little information about their family line in the shadow world.

The only thing that she was able to find was that, a person by the name of Regulus Black, was the very first Black to ever be known as a shadowhunter.

But the confusing thing is, he was a mundane at first. An extremely, ignorant, and ordinary mundane at that.

Oblivious, even.

Based on the information that she was able to find, it says there that Regulus only knew his name when one of the Clave representatives discovered him.

It's as if the man's memories were wiped clean. It was mentioned that he was found by Lucian Graymark, the official Clave representative of the werewolves back then, drenched and bathing with his own blood.

When he was questioned by Lucian of what must have happened to him, he looked at him as if it's the first time that he has ever seen a breathing living thing. He looked so innocent— so… out of place, and so… detached.

It was mentioned on the artifact archives that Emery was able to pull, that Regulus was wearing something that appears to be of coming from the Victorian era. It was said that he was found wearing a particular set of robes that has a specific fabric that, at that time, can only be attained if you have an unequivocally set of wealth that can probably last a lifetime.

Which, as per the Clave, does not make any sense due to the fact that their ancestry never existed in the Shadow world, as per the Consul at the time of investigation.

However, after a week full of questions, investigations, and a lot of deep diving through the shadow world's deepest, darkest histories and secrets, Regulus Black was declared a pureblooded shadowhunter.

And that's when the noble house of Black was founded, at least that's what Emery understood.

The ultimate mystery of it all was, it was never revealed whether Regulus was able to remember what happened to him, or not.
