The train car wiggled back and forth on the track rhythmically, the lull of voices outside the train compartment, the sun setting as they traveled closer and closer to their destination, and the train that whistled every so often. It was all coupled together to bring the perfect atmosphere to sit and read.
I know, how boring that must sound, but it was truthfully calming being able to be whisked away with the soft noises right before we arrived at Hogwarts. It seemed that was the only place I had that was able to calm me. Home was no longer a haven, it was there where I could see my friends and feel like I belonged even just for a bit.
Although it did feel odd sitting in a car with another in there with me, another who was a stranger. He covered himself with a cloak and slept the entire way. Must be quite tired ...sleeping for more than half a day... It was the only car that was open, so it wasn't awful, it wasn't a popular bloke battering my ears off with their annoying scratchy voices. Instead, it was only soft snores that could only be heard if you concentrated hard enough.
Then to my luck, the door opened, and three kids, a girl with bushy wild hair and two boys stood there, "Oh, We're sorry!" The girl apologized genuinely, "Would it be alright if we joined you? There are no other seats left," I desperately wanted to say no, but I couldn't just leave these kids to the throws of others yelling and laughing the entire time either, "Yeah sure," I smiled. Of course, I couldn't stop myself, I hated my people-pleasing nature so much.
The three of them piled in and put their luggage in the compartments above our heads. The red-headed boy frowned and looked at the other in the compartment, "Who's he?"
"Professor R.J. Lupin," The girl observed, I had recognized it too before, but the boys didn't. The redhead boy turned to the one in the round glasses with an aggravated tone, "She knows everything! How is it that she knows everything?" She rolled her eyes, and honestly, it took everything for me not to laugh. I covered my face for a moment with my book, trying my hardest not to be rude as she pointed at the luggage above the man's head, "It's on the suitcase Ronald..." She sounded exasperated as if she was tired of his nonsense.
"Oh..." he muttered as the other boy shook his head at 'Ronald'. I shook my head and heard the boy with glasses close the door, he turned to me for a moment and stared as if wondering if I was listening, but truthfully I wasn't, I was too enthralled by the book. I only heard whispers between the three, capturing the words of 'Azkaban' and 'dangers'.
I wondered silently if they were talking about Sirius Black. A murderer who sided with Voldemort. Honestly hearing the story and looking into the case myself on my spare time, it was intriguing, the fact that he not only worked for Voldemort but also killed his friends. It was insane... I wanted to dig around in his mind and figure out how he worked, and what made him tick.
"So let me get this straight..." Ronald spoke up. I peeked over my book ever so slightly and saw his face contorted in confusion, "Sirius Black escaped from Azkaban to come after you?" Now this was intriguing, some kid thought that he was being chased down by a hard criminal. What kind of main character energy did the parents bestow upon a... what a 12-year-old?
The boy in the glasses sighed and nodded, "Yes..."
"But they'll catch Black, won't they? I mean... eventually..." The girl's voice quieted as her sentence finished.
"Sure– Yeah, no one's ever broken out of Azkaban before, and he's a murderous, raving, lunatic!" Ronald tried his hardest to reassure, but it didn't work when the boy in glasses tight-lipped and sarcastically spoke, "Thanks, Ron," As he spoke the train jolted hard, the compartment rattled and the lights above began to flicker. I pulled my nose from my book and gazed around with a frown. The train began to slow down, screeching to a halt. The girl gazed down at her watch and frowned, "It's stopping..." She muttered, "Why are we stopping, we're not set to arrive for hours."
