"Uhhhh just another gin..thing" I slurred to the bartender after fleeing the scene of that table.
Who asks that kind of question? Like that's personal! I know I kinda had a major public breakdown only three months ago but leave me alone!
"Is that all?" the bartender asked, wait did I say that out loud?
"Is there a tab I can put that on?" he continued.
A voice came from behind me, "Ripley, Put it on ripley."
Rhea startled me, I jumped, nearly toppling out of my seat but two warm hands met my shoulder blades.
"Whoa there songbird, are you sure you can drink anymore?"
Once I was stable on the cracking leather stool, Rhea spun me around to face her. My knees met her ripped jean clad ones, my hand went out to clutch hers on the sticky bar top to make sure the spinning didn't make me sick.
Rhea smirked at my tipsy state, but scrunched her eyes in concern.
"Songbird?" I asked, still not removing my hand from hers, Rhea not bothering to move hers either.
She giggled, "Don't know if you noticed Marilynn, but you have a pretty bad singing-in-public problem."
Ohhh, whoops.
The bartender quickly came back around and handed me my Gin and Soda, which is not what I wanted at all, but Rhea swooped in to take it from me.
I pouted in her general direction, "I don't think you need anymore Marilynn, thank me later okay?"
"It's Marnie!"
"Sorry, what was that? I think I've lost all my hearing suddenly." Rhea said, I guess I get loud when I'm drunk, or frustrated.
"Seriously Songbird, you don't need anymore," Rhea said.
"Heyyy!" I exclaimed at Rhea who simply shook her head and moved the glass away from me.
With a wave of tiredness and sadness, I leaned on the warm bar top and traced patterns in the scratches. Maybe I could just rest my eyes here.
I hadn't realised but the bar had been slowly filling up with college age students and the noise level had nearly doubled.
From my new sleeping perch I could faintly hear Rhea talking with someone, something about being drunk and driving home..oh I just know Rhea drank too much!
She can't drive drunk, that's dangerous...I wanna go home.
I was just about to interject and tell her not to drive but glass breaking somewhere behind me broke my train of thought.
I spun around in my chair, yet again being grabbed by Rhea and spun back around. I felt nauseous.
Rhea looked me straight in the eyes seriously and opened her mouth to say something but it was too late.
"Omg are you Marnie Blake?"
Normally when I was recognised every muscle in my body would tense up and every bone would freeze, but I couldn't help but feel giddy at the voice.
No part of me felt enough of anything to feel scared, numbed by the alcohol in my blood.
Rhea was no longer making eye contact with me, instead looking behind me to find the fan that the voice came from.
Her palms were warm against my shoulders but gripped me so hard I was scared that I had bruises.
While Rhea's focus wasn't on me I slipped out of my seat and shimmied out of her strong grip. I turned around and found the fan sitting on the stool behind me.
"Yeah I am! Why?" I asked the girl, who looked barely old enough to buy alcohol.
The girl looked surprised that I was talking to her, "could I get a photo?" she asked excitedly.
"No."
The look on the girl's face shifted to horror as she looked behind me, "if you want a photo I suggest you pay for a meet and greet." Said Rhea.
The girl stuttered something defeatedly and walked off to join her friends.
I turned around ready to give Rhea the biggest lecture of her life but I was quickly met with a 5'7 woman with her arms crossed and her eyes glaring behind me.
Rhea's expression melted into concern, "Hey are you okay?"
"No, Rhea why can't I take a photooooo? It's harmless!" I exclaimed, my words slurring yet again.
Her eyes drew together in confusion, "Do you really want to see a photo of you piss drunk end up online? You're supposed to be incognito, apparently."
"Why'd you stop them though? I could have done that!" I protested.
Rhea just shrugged, "First of all you wouldnt have, and it's just my nature..."
"You're just a big meanie!" I said, poking my tongue out, Rhea simply huffed.
"Ok I think it's time to head home," she said "No tantrums, come on!"
No amount of protest could stop Rhea from hauling me over her shoulder and softly shoving me in an uber.
Rhea followed suit, she grabbed my arm to make sure I didn't fall horizontal on the back seat and plugged my seatbelt in next to hers.
Why was rhea helping me though? I barely knew her!
My vision was blurry as a recalled events from the night, dom and liv getting shots, damian and rhea shaking their heads, getting drunkenly scolded by liv.
"Marnie...hello...Marine are you in there?" said Rhea from above me.
I looked back up at her only to realise I was about to fall asleep clutching her bicep, "Huh?"
"I said, Liv's staying for a bit but I got your address from Damian and I'm taking you home, okay?" Taking in my subdued state, she softened her voice.
"But your party?" I whined.
She looked out the window at the passing lights before chuckling and looking back down at me, "Irish Exit, they're all drunk anyway," she said, softly putting her hand on my knee and squeezing, "don't worry birdie."
Her hand reminded me of the arm I still had wrapped hers, whether she noticed or not she didn't attempt to remove me.
Kayden hated PDA, she always said it was bad PR because 'i was a smaller artist than her, what would her manager think?'
Lost in thought, I jumped at Rheas phones ringing and moved back into my space in the middle of the car.
I stared out the window opposite rhea and I. Flashing lights and cars past us, I was sober enough to realise that we were about twenty minutes away.
Rhea's hand came to rest on top of my thigh when we turned a corner and I was one push away from falling onto the empty seat. I brought my eyes to hers, her eyes were still open wide in worry but calmed when she saw mine.
"Are you okay?" she asked, "do you want to tell me why you ran from us back there?"
I closed my eyes and shook my head, it's not her problem, it's just embarrassing.
I kept my eyes closed, resting my forehead against her shoulder, but Rhea kept talking, "You and I know best to ignore interviewers, Cathy means well," Rhea whispered into the top of my head, placing an arm over my shoulders to bring me closer and make sure I didn't sway away from her again, "just don't listen to them and you're set."
She said something else but by then I had drifted to sleep clutching her arm.
