*The night after the incident
Tension hung thick in the air as two individuals engaged in a clandestine conversation, their voices barely above a whisper but heavy with urgency and frustration.
"I'm sorry," one voice murmured, tinged with regret yet firm in resolve.
"You made a mistake! What happened? We had this planned out since ages ago," the other voice hissed, its tone laced with accusation and disbelief.
"Things took an unexpected turn, I didn't expect him to not drink... But we can continue this in our favour," the first voice offered, attempting to salvage the situation.
"What do you mean? This is our only chance and you messed it up," the second voice retorted, desperation seeping through each word, "You better be prepared for the consequences."
A pregnant pause enveloped them before the anonymous voice spoke again, its tone chillingly final. "Don't worry... There's one other way... And the only other way is... death."
In the oppressive darkness of that fateful night, where shadows danced ominously and whispered secrets weighed heavily in the air, the stage was set for a mystery riddled with deceit and betrayal, poised to unravel with revelations that would shake all involved to their core.
But the tale doesn't begin there.
Rewind 24 hours, and the courtroom echoed with the resounding declaration of "not guilty" for my client, Hu Ding Tang. As the gavel fell, marking the end of one case, it also signified the dawn of another.
My name is Kiyo Loo, and I am a defence attorney in Singapore...
As I sat in my dimly lit living room, the glow of the television casting flickering shadows across the walls, I couldn't tear my eyes away from the screen. The news anchor's voice filled the room, announcing the headline with a gravity that sent shivers down my spine.
"There it is, folks, the headline we never thought we'd see: 'Not Guilty Verdict Reached in Impossible Trial'," the anchor declared, the words echoing in the silence of the room. "Singapore's top defence attorney, Kiyo Loo, once again did the impossible by turning an impossible case around, achieving a not guilty verdict for his client, saving yet another innocent life."
My heart swelled with pride at the mention of my name, a wave of relief washing over me as I listened to the accolades. It was a moment of validation, a reminder of why I dedicated my life to the pursuit of justice. Beside me, my wife squeezed my hand, her eyes shining with admiration.
You did it yet again, Kiyo," she whispered, her voice filled with awe.
I smiled, unable to find the words to express the mixture of gratitude and humility that filled my heart. In that moment, as the weight of the world lifted from my shoulders, I knew that every sacrifice had been worth it.
As I watched the jubilant faces of my client and their family celebrating outside the courthouse, I can't help but feel that it's all worth it. It was a moment of triumph, a victory against all odds.
"It's over," I whispered, my voice hoarse with emotion.
My wife, Jasmin, reached out, her hand finding mine as we sat together in the quiet of our living room, basking in the glow of the television screen and the knowledge that justice had prevailed.
"You're amazing out there, dear." She added.
"Thank you," I murmured, my voice barely above a whisper, the weight of the moment still settling in, "I couldn't have done it without the help of many people. This case is really one of the toughest one that I have met during my career as defence attorney."
