For the longest time, life has been the same for the recently crowned Red King. Back when he was just an apprentice and he dreamed of leaving the kingdom.
Then, he met Sabre.
Since then, things have done nothing but change. The only thing that seemed to stay the same was M's habit of waking up at stupid thirty in the morning.
So, here the king was, sitting in t̶h̶e̶ ̶R̶e̶d̶ ̶K̶i̶n̶g̶'̶s his study, looking out the window and watching the brilliant sun rise from it's slumber below the horizon.
Watching the star patiently crawl up from it's sleeping spot to greet the realm, M was gifted the opportunity to process his thoughts slower. It soon became a pattern; he'd think on something and get lost in his head, then he'd look up to see that the sun before him had painted a new layer of vibrant hues across the sky.
He began to think about Sabre and Time.
The sky became painted red with pinkish clouds in turn.
M doesn't like that. It reminds him too much of when the sky was reddened and filled with chains. It was like the sky was taunting him, claiming him as nothing more than a hapless dot of color in the storm of power.
Although, red is also the color of his people, of him. It is the color of wisdom, of knowledge. As many of the steves had said, knowledge is power. So there! Take that mocking sky!
Then, he looked up to find that the sky was now an orangy shade of yellow.
M likes it better than when it was red.
And so, the pattern continued like this for a while. The sky gave M inspiration on what to think about as he watched the sun paint a glorious image before the king's very eyes.
Far too soon has the sky turned blue.
And just like that, M finds himself feeling the same as the sky. Blue, and not in the same way that the blue steves represent the color. Instead, he feels sad. Alone. Tired.
As much as he wants to deny it, he knows why he will feels like this.
He should be happy, though. The kingdoms are united again with the color wheel being complete once more, and the red steves are free to mingle with the other kingdoms. At least... That's what he believes.
Deep down, there was no denying it. He missed Sabre and Time. Both of which have saved his life in the past, so M felt like he owes them. But now... There's no way to make it up to them, isn't there?
Just like the sunrise's beautiful array of hues, the Red King's slowed thought process was erased into a blue blur.
