I was in no rush to leave yet. So after he paid, I offered to show him around and we took a walke in the park near by.
"Where you on a scholarship in high school or in college? I mean for boxing."
"No, I was not on a scholarship and I didn't go to college. I jumped right into professional boxing after high school."
He shows no emotions talking about it. No enthusiasm at all. I can sense a disruption in his voice as he evokes that transition. I feel the disconnexion.
Given that he's been boxing for so long and even keep doing it after he graduated from high school, why is he not happy about it? why this disconnexion?
It seems boxing is his passion, I would've said.
I have to ask.
"Didn't you want to go to college?"
"I don't know," he says.
"You don't know?" I replied baffled. I'm once again surprised by his answer.
"...I was not sure what to do." He added.
"Do you enjoy doing it? Boxing?"
"Kind of."
"How often do you fight?"
"It depends."
"On what?"
"On circumstances and potential adversary."
He's keeping it vague, ok.
"When is your next fight?"
"Tomorrow evening."
"Can I come see you fight?"
I said it without thinking, with the enthusiasm of a child.
"I don't think it's a good idea."
"Why is that? I want to come cheer for you."
"No."
"No?"
I'm hurting. I enjoy his presence and I though the feeling was mutual.
I stop walking. "I want to go now. I want to go home."
I walk away from him, making big step.
He immediately chase after me, calling my name, "Rissea."
I accelerate my pace, puting some distance between me and him but he caughtes up with me anyway, holding me by the arm.
"Let go of me."
"Sorry," he says and let my arm go.
"It's complicated ok!" He adds
"I'm not that dumm." I scream.
"I never said that...It's just...Not today..." running his hands nervously through his hair.
I keep walking, showing my anger through my footsteps
"Rissea"
"Leave me alone! I'm going home."
"Yes but it's this way."
This stopped me in my track and I have to walk pass him.
"I'm bringing you home."
