Chapter 37: Punishment

Team RNJR and Setsuna continued their way through the abandoned and unfinished village of Oniyuri, with Ren and Setsuna both leading. Everything was quiet, mainly due to the dreadful atmosphere the entire village gave off, despite it sounding promising. To Ruby and Setsuna in particular, many memories of their mission in Mountain Glenn flashed in their mind, the colorless and lifeless environment that was just infested by Grimm. Ren truly wasn't wrong in saying that Oniyuri was Anima's Mountain Glenn.

Suddenly, Setsuna's ears twitched as she came to a sudden halt, with her slightly snarling like an alerted wolf. Ruby was about to ask her what was wrong, when Ren too stopped, and raised his hand, signaling the others to stop as well. His face said it all, that something was coming. Setsuna's growling grew more agitated, her eyes flickering slightly as she reached for one of her Arondight swords on her left hip, unsheathing it while Ren equipped his Stormflower. Ruby, Jaune and Nora followed suit, arming themselves with their weapons. Setsuna's ears twitched again as she began to hear rapid footsteps approaching, followed by low maniacal laughter, putting her on high alert as her tail stood straight up in alertness, her eyes widening.

Setsuna: "Watch out!"

Leaping over the group was none other than Tyrian Callows, the crazed man holding his wide grin as he deployed his weapons, two wrist mounted circular blades named, The Queen's Servants. Instantly, he made a b-line towards Ruby, clearly targeting her but Ren got in his way, blocking his path. While Ren did his best to hold him off, Tyrian was immensely skilled, evident by how he kept Ren on the defensive before managing to knock him back.

Before Tyrian could move again, Setsuna was already on him. She went for an overhead slash, but the man quickly parried her attack with the blade on his left arm before quickly striking with the one on his right arm. Setsuna quickly managed to dodge back, but Tyrian was already in front of her, forcing her to take a defensive stance with her blade, blocking strike after strike before her feet were swept out from underneath her, causing her to yelp in surprise. With a laugh, Tyrian then kicked the Arctic Wolf Faunus away before turning his attention back to Ruby.

He quickly closed the distance with her, forcing her to back away a couple of times to avoid his attacks but he kept pressing her. Ruby, like Setsuna, was forced to go on the defensive, using her Crescent Rose to block Tyrian's slashes to the best of her ability. She'd attempt to swing at him, only for the man to interrupt her swing with a kick, before forcing her to block another strike with his blades, however, this one managed to graze her along the chest, damaging her Aura slightly. In an instant, Jaune came to Ruby's aid, his shield up about to ram Tyrian in the side. However, the man jumped up and perched himself up on Jaune's shield, like a monkey, taking the blonde by surprise. He wouldn't remain there for long as Nora charged in, Magnhild ready, but Tyrian quickly pushed himself off of Jaune's shield, landed on Nora's hammer's head before launching himself into a taller building, breaking the wall and stabilizing himself to look down at the group of five. Setsuna and Ren quickly rejoined them.

Jaune: "We're not looking for a fight!"

Ren: "Who are you?" the man merely chuckled and hopped down from his vantage point.

Tyrian: "Who I am matters not to you..." He pointed at Ren. "You or you..." he pointed at Nora and Setsuna before he looked at Jaune. "Or... Well, you do interest me." The blonde Arc was a bit confused before the man chuckled. "No, I only matter... to you." This time, he pointed directly at Ruby, with her teammates looking back at her, all of them equally confused.

Ruby: "Me?" Her response triggered the man to start cackling hysterically.

Tyrian: "You–you haven't the slightest clue, do you? Oh, how exciting this must be!" Narrowing her eyes, the argent eyed girl glared daggers at him.
