Taeyeon sat quietly, just a few rows from where Gabriel stood addressing the crowd, his expression unreadable as he listened to the powerful words that echoed across the room. Whatever unspoken sentiment had flickered between him and Rumeysa earlier now felt distant and raw.
The applause that had erupted after Gabriel's speech gradually died down, and the room shifted as journalists readied their questions.
He stepped forward with calm confidence, exuding the poise of a man who'd spent years preparing for this moment.
A seasoned reporter was called first, his voice steady. "Mr. Baig, the Baig Estate project is clearly a monumental initiative. Given your anticipated role as Prime Minister, how do you plan to balance responsibilities between the private sector and leading the country?"
His reply was deliberate, calm. "The Baig Estate is more than a business endeavor; it's a vision for a stronger, more unified South Korea. While I'll remain involved in the project's strategic oversight, my primary focus will be serving the country as Prime Minister. The Baig Estate will be a tool to uplift our citizens, not distract from my duties."
The journalist nodded, and another hand shot up. "You've spoken about corruption and your commitment to eliminating it. Many leaders before you have promised the same, but few have succeeded. Why do you think you can?"
His expression hardened, his voice sharpening. "This isn't about empty promises. Change demands action and integrity, both of which my administration will be built on. I have a dedicated team unafraid of challenging corruption. Change requires struggle, and I'm prepared for it."
The crowd continued to buzz with excitement as his poised responses resonated with the audience.
Yet in a darker, shadowed corner of the hall, Mr. Kim watched Gabriel, a steely frown deepening on his face. He leaned toward Kabir, his tone laced with resentment.
"This country deserves a leader with strength, not a naive idealist like Gabriel," they sneered, eyes never leaving Gabriel. "Taeyeon would be far more capable-someone who understands what true leadership demands."
Kabir, alert to the change in tone, nodded as if in agreement, but inwardly, curiosity sparked. "You think Taeyeon would be better suited for the role, then?" he prompted, testing the waters of Mr. Kim's intentions.
Mr. Kim's gaze sharpened. "Of course. Taeyeon has the backbone to make the hard choices Gabriel would flinch from. If this country needs someone strong enough to lead it, my son should be the one to take the reins, not Gabriel."
Kabir leaned back thoughtfully, his fingers steepling as he processed this. Mr. Kim's ambition for Taeyeon could mean an additional obstacle in his own plans for power and revenge-a new complication he hadn't anticipated. He gave a slow, measured nod. "Interesting... that's a perspective many might not see, Mr. Kim."
Just than, Kabir's phone buzzed in his pocket just as Mr. Kim's words settled. Glancing at the screen, he saw it was Ethan.
Excusing himself with a polite nod, he moved to a secluded hallway and answered the call. "Ethan, what is it?"
Ethan's voice came through, thick with barely concealed frustration. " Hyung, we've been talking about taking Gabriel out for months. Tonight could be the night we act, and I'm ready."
Kabir's eyes narrowed. "Hold back, Ethan." His tone was urget yet calm. " Mr. Kim has his own ambition-he wants Taeyeon to rise in Gabriel's place. There might be more to gain by playing along for now."
There was a pause, and when Ethan spoke again, his voice was tense. "We're this close to eliminating Gabriel for good. Why hesitate? One bullet, and he's out of our way."
