a/n: (requested) no real plot, but it's pretty much just wanting a baby with nat + motherhood together :)
i can't tell if this is too long or not. i included so much random stuff but it seemed cute so idk
In the car it's warm, but outside it's cold. Snow is covering the landscape, untouched and shimmering in the early morning light. Frost is clinging to the branches of bare trees, and faint wisps of mist are rising from the fields. Natasha seems calm, unguarded for once. It's easy for her to do that when it's just the two of you.
Her hand reaches out, briefly brushing over yours before she interlaces your fingers. Three quick, subtle squeezes, her thumb rubbing over the back of your hand.
"Almost there", she finally says, her voice cutting through the air.
You hum, looking outside again. Your surroundings are becoming increasingly familiar — the winding, narrow road, the little barns and the fences softened by layers of snow. Smoke rising from nearby farmhouses, a little river that cuts a gentle curve as it meanders through the trees.
"I'm nervous."
"You don't have to be", Natasha reassures you. "They love you. They've told me countless times. Especially Lilah."
"Okay, but I've never spent this much time with them", you explain, sinking into your seat and gazing at your fiancée. You know the Bartons adore you, at least deep down you do. But there's this part of you that just can't help but be antsy at the prospect of spending the next week around them. They're Natasha's found family, after all. The ones who accepted her as their own, who made her feel like she actually belongs somewhere for the first time. You want them to know that she's in good hands now. "I mean, we're staying the entire holidays."
"Well, the way I see it, you're not just a guest this time. You're my fiancée, which makes you family." She steers the car into the driveway of the Barton farmhouse. A snowman — complete with a scarf and carrot nose — is perched next to the shed, the porch railings are wrapped with garlands of evergreen. Twinkling lights frame the windows, frost dusts the wooden beams. You both grow distracted by the sight, but out of entirely different reasons.
Natasha never knew what a proper Christmas can feel like before she met Clint. His family introduced her to it, showed her the magic of the holiday season she missed as a child. And while it doesn't make up for the memories lost, it still managed to make her feel part of something real, something filled with warmth.
"Wow", you mumble absentmindedly. You remembered what their house looks like, of course, but seeing it like this — surrounded by snow, looking like straight out of a Christmas movie — is making you feel like you're a child again. "They went all out."
"Believe me, that's very on brand", Natasha murmurs in response, squeezing your hand one more time. Then she lets go to undo her seatbelt and slide out of the car. "Ready?"
"Sure", you say, not sounding too convinced, and get out as well. Chilly December air, still and crisp, greets you and instantly starts nipping at your cheeks. You pull the collar of your coat up to your nose to shield yourself from the cold. Natasha smiles as she rounds the car, tugging you into her as she starts walking towards the front porch.
You haven't even rang the doorbell yet when you can already hear the noises coming from inside the house. Laughter, music, a little girl complaining about something. Then the front door opens, revealing Clint as he ushers you inside.
"Welcome, welcome...just put your stuff there. Shoes off, please — especially you, Romanoff, those things are older than me at this point."
"Auntie Nat!"
