I walk into school on Monday and I don't believe my eyes. I see Austin flirting with a blonde-haired girl. Austin looks at me, then says, "uh, hey, Avery. I mean, it's not what it looks like. She's-"
I run into the bathroom and start to puke. Sure, Austin, 'it's not what it looks like,' I thought. I went to class, told my teacher I was sick, got my stuff and went home.
I was so upset that I didn't even tell Turtle. I just sat on my bed and cried. For two hours. Then, surprisingly, mom came in. She sat on my bed and stroked my back. It was so soothing. I stopped crying. "What's wrong, Avery?" she asked.
"Nothing."
"Have you talked to Turtle about it?"
"No...wait, you know about him?"
"Your father told me."
"And he told me not to tell anyone." Mom laughed.
"Can I tell you a secret?" She asked.
"Sure. Anything."
"I'm not sick anymore."
