The music boomed from the speakers, vibrating through the walls of the packed house.Students swarmed the place, dancing, drinking, and laughing as if the night would never end.
It was one of those infamous college parties, the kind everyone talked about but no one really remembered the next day.
Lisa stood by the kitchen counter, sipping her soda as she watched the chaos unfold.
She wasn’t much of a party girl, but Jungkook had insisted she come tonight.
He’d been his usual charming self, joking about how she needed to “live a little.” And as his best friend, she had reluctantly agreed.
But now, she regretted it.
Her eyes scanned the room, looking for Jungkook, but he was nowhere in sight.
Typical, she thought, sighing. He was probably off flirting with some girl, completely forgetting she existed.
She wasn’t even sure why she felt so annoyed—this was just who he was.
As she took another sip, a loud laugh caught her attention. She turned to see Jungkook, his arm slung around the shoulders of a girl she didn’t recognize.
She was tall, with blonde hair and a tight dress that clung to her like a second skin.
The girl was giggling uncontrollably as Jungkook whispered something into her ear.
Lisa’s stomach twisted uncomfortably, her grip tightening around her cup.
She wasn’t sure if it was the jealousy creeping in or the frustration that he had dragged her here just to ditch her. Either way, it stung.
Shaking her head, she decided it was time to leave. She had seen enough.
But just as she turned to go, Jungkook spotted her from across the room. His eyes lit up, and he called out, "Lisa! Hey, wait up!"
Lisa hesitated, forcing a smile as Jungkook weaved his way through the crowd toward her, the blonde girl still clinging to his arm.
Jk: "I didn’t know you were still here!" he shouted over the music, grinning like a fool.
Lisa: "Yeah, I’m just about to leave." Lisa replied, trying to sound casual.
Jk: "Leave? The party’s just getting started!"
Jungkook laughed, clearly tipsy. He nudged the girl beside him.
Jk: "Lisa, this is... uh, sorry, what’s your name again?"
The girl giggled, swatting his arm.
Girl: "Ashley."Jk: "Right, Ashley!" Jungkook turned back to Lisa, still smiling. Jk: "Isn’t she great?"
Lisa clenched her jaw.
Lisa: "Yeah, she seems... fun."Ashley leaned into Jungkook, her voice loud and obnoxious.
Ashley: "So, are you like his sister or something?"
Lisa felt a pang of hurt but masked it with a dry laugh.
Lisa: "No, just a friend."
Ashley raised an eyebrow, clearly unimpressed. Ashley: "Oh, okay."
Jungkook, oblivious to the tension, pulled Lisa closer, slinging an arm around her shoulder.
Jk: "Lisa’s the best. She’s like... my ride or die."
Lisa stiffened under his touch, feeling more like a sidekick than a best friend.
She could smell the alcohol on his breath, and it only made her angrier.
Lisa: "I’m heading out," she said again, this time more firmly, trying to push his arm off her.
But Jungkook wasn’t paying attention. He leaned closer, his breath hot on her ear. Jk: "Stay a little longer, come on. Have some fun for once."
Lisa’s heart pounded as she tried to pull away. "I’m not in the mood, Jungkook."
He frowned, swaying slightly. "Why not? You’re always so serious. Just relax for once."
Lisa could feel the weight of Ashley’s judging eyes on her.
Lisa: "Because this isn’t my scene," she snapped, her voice sharper than she intended. Lisa: "I don’t want to be here, watching you flirt with every girl in the room."
Jungkook blinked, taken aback by her tone. Jk: "What’s your problem?"
Lisa: "My problem?" Lisa laughed bitterly, stepping back.
Lisa: "My problem is that you dragged me here and then forgot I existed the moment someone else caught your attention. But that’s nothing new, right?"
Jungkook’s face hardened, his playful demeanor dropping. Jk: "I didn’t ask you to babysit me."
Lisa: "You didn’t have to," Lisa shot back. Lisa: "You always expect me to clean up your messes, to be there when you’re done fooling around. I’m tired of it."
For a moment, Jungkook looked like he might argue, but then Ashley tugged on his arm.
Ashley: "Let’s go, Jungkook. This is boring."
Lisa’s heart clenched as she watched him hesitate, torn between her and the girl hanging on his arm. Lisa: "Fine," she muttered, turning away before he could see the tears stinging her eyes.
Lisa: "Go have fun."
She stormed toward the door, shoving her way through the crowd. The music felt louder, the lights brighter, everything overwhelming as she fought to hold back her emotions.
She couldn’t believe she had let herself get so worked up over him—over Jungkook.
As she stepped out into the cool night air, she felt a hand grab her wrist, stopping her in her tracks. "Wait."
It was Jungkook. He had followed her out, his expression serious now, the drunken haze in his eyes replaced by something else—guilt, maybe.
Jk: "Lisa, I didn’t mean to—" he began, but she cut him off.
Lisa: "Don’t," she said, pulling her wrist free.
Lisa: "I get it, okay? You’re having fun, living your life. I’m not mad at you for that. But you need to stop dragging me into it and expecting me to be okay with everything."
Jungkook frowned, stepping closer. Jk: "I’m not... I didn’t know you felt like this."
Lisa: "Of course you didn’t," Lisa whispered, her voice cracking.
Lisa: "You’re so wrapped up in your own world that you never notice how I feel. How could you?"
There was a beat of silence between them, the tension thick in the air.
Jungkook reached out, his hand hovering near her shoulder but hesitating. Jk: "I don’t want to lose you."
Lisa: "You won’t," she said softly, meeting his eyes.
Lisa: "But you need to figure out what you want, Jungkook. Because I can’t keep pretending that this... this doesn’t hurt."
For the first time, Jungkook didn’t have a clever response. He just stood there, looking at her like he was seeing her for the first time. His mind raced, trying to process the weight of her words.
Before he could say anything else, Lisa stepped back.
Lisa: "Goodnight, Jungkook."
And with that, she turned and walked away, leaving him standing there alone in the cold, the sound of the party fading behind him.
