The quiet hum of the car engine filled the night as Jisoo drove, but Jennie's mind was far from calm. Every passing streetlight cast long, eerie shadows across the road, making Jennie flinch at every flicker of movement. She couldn't shake the feeling that Lisa was still close, watching, waiting. Even though she had left her behind, the sense of being pursued lingered like a ghost.
Jisoo glanced over at Jennie, her face filled with quiet concern. "You don't have to talk about it now," she said softly, her voice cutting through Jennie's spiraling thoughts. "But whenever you're ready, I'm here."
Jennie nodded, grateful for Jisoo's patience, but she wasn't ready to put everything into words just yet. The fear, the twisted love, the way Lisa had wrapped her so completely in control-it was all too raw. Speaking about it out loud would make it feel even more real, and Jennie wasn't sure she could handle that right now.
Instead, she let the silence hang between them, her eyes fixed on the dark road ahead. They were leaving the city now, moving further away from the places that Lisa would search first. Jennie knew it was only a matter of time before Lisa realized she was gone. And when she did... Lisa wouldn't stop until she found her.
As the car sped down the highway, Jennie felt her phone vibrate in her lap. Her heart skipped a beat, fear coursing through her veins as she looked down at the screen. It was another message, from an unknown number. But Jennie didn't need to see the name to know who it was.
You can run, but you'll never be free. I'll find you, Jennie. You belong to me.
The words sent a cold shiver down Jennie's spine. She knew Lisa's obsession ran deep, but this was different. There was a desperation in Lisa's messages now, a dangerous edge that made Jennie's stomach twist with fear. Lisa wasn't just angry-she was hunting her.
Jisoo noticed Jennie's pale face and frowned. "Another message?"
Jennie nodded silently, her fingers trembling as she turned the phone off. There was no point in reading the rest of Lisa's words. They would all say the same thing-that Jennie couldn't escape, that Lisa would never stop. But Jennie couldn't let herself believe that. She had to keep running, had to keep pushing forward, no matter how much Lisa tried to pull her back.
Jisoo's grip tightened on the steering wheel, her jaw set with determination. "She won't find you, Jennie," she said firmly, her voice filled with a quiet resolve. "We'll keep moving. She won't know where to look."
But even as Jisoo spoke, Jennie could feel the doubt creeping in. Lisa always knew. She had always been able to track Jennie, no matter where she went, no matter how far she tried to run. It was as if Lisa had a sixth sense, an unholy connection to Jennie that couldn't be broken.
Jennie stared out the window, watching the darkened countryside roll by in a blur. The further they drove from the city, the quieter it became. The silence should have been comforting, but instead, it only heightened Jennie's anxiety. Every shadow seemed to move, every sound felt like it could be Lisa, closing in on her.
"I don't know if I can outrun her," Jennie admitted softly, her voice barely audible as she voiced her deepest fear. "She's always been one step ahead of me."
Jisoo glanced over, her eyes soft but serious. "You don't have to outrun her forever," she said gently. "We just need time. Time to figure this out, to get help."
Jennie nodded, though deep down, she wasn't sure what help would look like. Lisa was relentless. She didn't just want to control Jennie-she wanted to possess her completely, to make sure Jennie could never escape her grasp. Jennie had once thought Lisa's obsession was love, but now she could see it for what it truly was: domination. And Lisa would stop at nothing to maintain that control.
